As for Tara caring about what he thinks of her - IMHO, that's one of the qualities that make Tara as endearing as she is. She's incredibly sunny natured and does manage to get on with most people because she is so open and sweet with everyone. Can totally understand why she would be hurt if someone makes it obvious that they don't like her - and guess she'd be the type of person to wonder what she'd done wrong, rather than think that Colin is just a bigoted fool. She is not bitchy, nasty, aggressive, spiteful or moody - so there is no real reason for anybody to take an active dislike to her.”
Excellent post and I totally agree. I think Colin's preconceived ideas of Tara stopped him from ever getting to know her. Probably thought she was a dopey, self obsessed junkie and nothing was going to change his mind. He is no doubt surprised how popular she is, in and out of the academy, and I think there is a bit of jealously there too as he was probably expecting her to be first out, as no doubt he thought everyone else shared his view too.
Tara is perceptive enough to feel this from Colin, another one of her great qualities.
