"Kielty called Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray a "big gayer" after he finished his performance on the BBC1 singing talent show and appeared to have tears in his eyes...

"Ofcom said it had received three complaints from Fame Academy viewers saying they thought the comment was homophobic and offensive while the BBC is understood to have received around a dozen."

I did pick up on that comment.

Can they also add 'Love Island' to his list of 'offences'?

On the other show afterwards the four gay singers (can't remember their names) put him number one as being the most camp All tongue in cheek of course, but I wonder if anyone has complained about that?

4 Poofs and A Piano I think they were called.

"He was born in Dundrum, County Down, Northern Ireland and raised a Roman Catholic."

Say no more.

I doubt it - it's all right to make homophobic comments if you're gay but not if your not. I don't like Patrick Kielty but the comment was no worse than saying you big girl's blouse/you big softie....hell maybe someone would complain about that!!. I think it's all getting out of hand. PC has it's uses but really, people need to stop getting offended about things that are not meant to cause offense.

I would never complain to OFCOM about a show that is fundraising for a charity, Simply because there is a very very slim chance of it being taken off Air

Yes yes yes and all that but why don't people just shut up about gays? Why are we always the joke. The thing to call someone as no one want to be likened to one.

It all goes to show what is really going on in their heads. That from someone brainwashed as a Catholic and it does start to get like a little nasty dig at people that it's ok to use as a joke.

Sensitive? No just sick and tried of it. We weren't put here to be anyones joke and to say that we shouldn't be offended by it is easy to say when not on the receiving end of it for years and years.

I mean it is REALLY easy not to cause any offence to gay people - Don't mention them!

I absolutely agree. It really makes you wonder about the people who makes these type of complaints. It''s they themselves that need a reality check IMO

Well, as a female I've been on the recieving end of countless sexist jokes and quite honestly I couldn't care a less. If he'd of said you're behaving like a woman, would I have been offended, no - In fact you could take it that gay men are more able to express and show their emotions than macho straight men, and what's wrong with that?

That won't help. From my experience of gay people the only thing that upsets them more than being insulted is being ignored.

That's it, he's a homophobe and he should be locked up for 25 years. Don't people ever get bored of witch hunts for such trivial matters?

As a gay man myself this does seem a tad trivial. I have seen and heard far worse on TV!

I'm from NI, Catholic etc blah blah does that make me a homophobe?

It was a comment made between a couple of lads, like "ya big girl" but then again to the PC crew on here I guess that is sexist!

One of my friends is gay, and we regularly exchange such taunts, but ssshhhh don't tell the Bishop!!

Stop making something out of nothing

What is the problem in calling someone a "big gayer"? Ubercamp people in my town are called "big Nellies" or "Mary Annes" or "big Jessies".

Completely agree with most of the comments in this thread. What a stupid thing for anyone to complain about, it was a joke, for goodness sake, no-one in their right mind would take offence at it. Next time I hear a gay man refer to a camper gay man as "she" I'm going to complain that it stereotypes women!

As a bisexual man I was not offended in the slightest by this comment. Colin should have been pleased that he was being associated with us gayers!
