Proper Pay as you Go sim?

When I first got into phones 'pay as you go' meant you could buy a sim with credit on and you could leave it as long as you wanted without having to top it up every month or so (might as well have a contract) if you used it a year later, it'd still work with your credit as it was.

Are there any around like this any more as the last time i checked 'pay as you go' seemed to be like a contract and you had to top it up all the time. I just want one to put in my wallet as a spare and forget about it but have it work when i want to. also to have gprs/3g enabled on it.

You only have to topup £10 or so every month if you want to take advantage of the lower cost inclusive minutes and or texts, free weekend calls etc.

If you don't topup monthly after the intial topup you will be charged at normal rate for these services instead.

Your credit won't run out on most networks provided you make a chargeable call every 180 days.

If you want data look at Orange and T-Mobile, £1 for 24 hours PAYG data.

What are you on about it hasn't changed you still just top up when you need to. You don't have to top up every montg.

Not that I am aware off currently, could be wrong.

You only have to make a chargeable call for a minute or less so very low cost, just the hassle of remembering.

I think if you 'go back', Orange will transfer the credit to a new number within a certain period of time, but I am not 100% sure.

I thought this has always been the case from as far back as I've known it.
