*spoiler* Twist for the semi-final!
moogester

Just found this on the Radio Times site for Thursday's show.

Spoiler
Four students but only two can go through to the final, so tonight everyone's place is in jeopardy. Viewers vote for one finalist but, in a surprise twist, all the ex-students return to decide who will win the other coveted place.

I can see Tricia or Shaun being chosen by the ex students if they are still there

They did something similar last year. I'm not sure how to use the spoiler things, so I won't say exactly what!

Highlight the text you want in the spoiler then click on the grey "S" on the toolbar just above, you can always preview the post to make sure its worked before posting it

well that sounds so stupid, i mean whats the point in voting for your favs if the students get to choose...i can see another voting scandal erupting over that!

That final would be so boring for the live comic relief show.

They are more likely to have three for the final.

eh? but it is pretty much the same as it has been for the whole series (and the other 4 series!). In fact the publice have more say proprtionaly as the judges don''t have a say.

It's also much fairer than having just one person (i.e. the student who won the public vote) deciding who to have with them in the final.

Not a very good idea. You could have
Student a & b with 48.01% and 47.99% of vote.
Student c & d with 2% each.

So could end up with student a & c in the final which would be a total anti-climax (ie. more-or-less knowing who's won before the final show).

The final is always an anti climax.

They shoe-horn it in to Live Comic Relief night, which will be disorganised and behind schedule, the voting is all over the place because nobody is sure when it will be on, and are being asked to donate to CR all evening anyway.

I always feel that the finalists - and the ultimate winner - are not given the respect they have earned by making it through.

I wish they'd just do a separate show, maybe the night before CR, then the winner could just do a performance on CR night.

I totally agree. I remember thinking last time that they'd be better off having the final on the Thursday and then just having one or more performances on CR night itself. I suppose it's a way of getting people to watch the main CR show who may not have done otherwise, so I can see why it's done the way it is.

That's just reminded me. I'm pretty certain that for the last CFA voting by phone stopped sometime around 7 o'clock, i.e. when the main phone number for Comic Relief started, and you could only vote by text during the show.
Reason I remember is that I desperately wanted to vote for Edith, and as I don't know how to text (my excuse being that they never had calculators when I went to school so I'm not very technical ), I had to phone my son and tell him to text vote for me.
As said son will be unavailable this Friday evening must make sure that he teaches me to text before then!
