Anyone noticed how the music in the Queen Vic often relates to the storyline?

Most recently was when Nat was going to tell Barry she was leaving him and they played the Del Amitri tune with the lyrics...'dont let me be the last to know'

My blokie also says they played 'The Bitch is Back' when Sharon came back...not sure of the truth in that though

Have a listen out

I think its a very clever, sly thing to do!

Yeah, but never mind that, don't you ever notice that when two people are rowing in the Vic, the music 'magically' stops? It happens every time!

Music, music, music...

"Eeah! Who do ya fink ya towkin to?"

**Music stops**!

Also, have you ever noticed that they are ALWAYS playing 'Smooth Operator' by Sade in the Woolpack? There is hardly any other music! Its always the same! In fact I remember one time it was playing in the Woolpack and Ray Mullan walked in then Charity said "Oooohhh..he's a smooth operator", and conveniently that song just happened to be playing! lol!

Someone mentioned the word dynamite twice in a scene on EE the other night, and conveniently Miss Dynamite was singing "Dy-Na-Mi-Tee" in the background.

I watched one of those 'behind the EE scene' progs a while back and remember a section on sound. The sound producer stressed that they go out of their way to match song titles/lyrics to the storyline. And as someone pointed out, music is muted whenever the drama goes into overdrive so as not to distract the viewer.

Yeah i always comment on that (to whoever may be in the room at the time).

Then it just magically starts again and everyone goes back to normal after the argument.

Glad you agree, it is the most noticeable thing in the soap!

In the Woolpack, 4 out of 5 times, they are playing "Smooth Operator" by Sade. Thats getting a bit noticeable too! Having said that, there was other music over the past few weeks. Odd

lol! That's Zac Dingle singing about his dream 'car'! No, can't say I've heard it, but no doubt we'll hear "Smoooooooth Operatorrrrrrr" this evening! Even though I can't stand Sade, I'm beginning to somewhat like it!

If my memory serves me correctly (although this IS going back a bit) didn't they used to play "Hill Billy Rock, Hill Billy Roll", in the Woolpack when Zak, Terry and Vic were the Woolpackers????

No place for beginners or sensitive hearts
When sentiment is left to chance.
No place to be ending but somewhere to start.

No need to ask.
He's a smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator.

Coast to coast, LA to Chicago, western male.
Across the north and south, to Key Largo, love for sale.

Face to face, each classic case.
We shadow box and double cross,
Yet need the chase.

A license to love, insurance to hold.
Melts all your memories and change into gold.
His eyes are like angels but his heart is cold.

No need to ask.
He's a smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator.

Coast to coast, LA to Chicago, western male.
Across the north and south, to Key Largo, love for sale.

Smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator,
smooth operator...

Heres another point......

EVERY time we see Pat in her temporay flat (while Barry has thrown her out of the house) there is ALWAYS really really loud music on in the background.

Now I know they are trying to make a point that its a noisy place or whater, whoever is playing this music must turn it of at some point?!

It's getting even more obvious now.

Pat in the vic tonight was giving her little speach about how she wanted to get away from the Vic? Guess what mucic was on....

"I want to get away (Fly away) - Lenny Kravitz"

Roll on another one.

I'm just going to go slightly off topic here, but have you seen the wallpaper, wall decoration, whatever, that's on the walls in Pat's temporary flat???

Great big, black palm trees, against a creamy colored back ground. Very memorable anyway!

So memorable in fact, that the other day , i flicked on to a really old episode of Only Fools and Horses on UK Gold, and guess what was on the walls in the Trotter's flat??

Yep, the same black palm tree wallpaper!!!.

Let's keep our eyes peeled for other observances of the palm tree wallpaper in other progs!!!
