Hes a genuine comedian, old school. Hes not Heat magazine, hes Ricky Gervais. Plus he can sing. Plus hes generous as a person. Unlike Tara who is essentially mean though desperately wishes and practises to appear otherwise.
Look at the duet and whose voice sounds better - it wasn't Shaun who won tonight in that sing off. Duets are battles - even when the people involved don't want to compete , the comparisons are inevitable. Look at Alex singing with Alistair and whose voice wins or Ade and Edith where Edith shows she can be funny too.
Then look at Tara who is everything Shaun isn't - emotionally involved in her song, and musically aware - if personally sometimes distracted.

I strangely liked it - must be the TV. Colin faded in all the wrong places but Tara seemed caught up emotionally in her lyrics. Even when she's not in tune she seems to go somewhere which sounds reasonable which may be because she has the musical background. Perhaps if you watch her too closely the odd notes don't register.There is so little that sounds emotional or in Carrie's word (Craig's tonight) " beautiful"on this show that you have to take what you get amongst the flat bits?
I thought Shaun was better too until tonight - Tricia i thought outsang him on the duet - its her voice that yopu notice more and its the one doing the more interesting things? I ended up forgetting who the backing singer was.

There is no accounting for taste! But on a technical point, I would have to point out the fact that Tricia is head and shoulders above Shaun as an accomplished singer (not as you suggest). The 3 judges all agreed on that issue tonight.

Whatever emotions Tara invokes in her public supporters, it certainly far exceeds those induced by listening to the dulcet tones of Shaun Williamson.

There is indeed no accounting for taste. I would agree that, in their individual songs, Tricia was better than Shaun tonight (apart from that one dodgy sustained high note) but, in general terms, I would say he has by far the superior voice.
I would still disagree that Tara has captured her audience's imagination through her singing - I still say it is entirely down to personal charm.
Dulcet tones are so called for a reason - because they sound good, as in sweet, melodious, harmonious. Call me old-fashioned, but in a singer these qualities are generally considered desirable, usually essential (though exceptions are occasionally made for particularly gifted songwriters like Bob Dylan).

Whether the "personal charm" is expressed in Tara's on-stage singing presence or detected by the public through the brief background clips shown each evening the whole point is that Shaun (the subject of the OP) is totally devoid of any such asset.
There are many great singers and many people with voices to die for, unfortunately most of them are like Shaun ...unemployed.

Isn't it the exceptions that prove the rule though? I do like singers who can express themselves and are not necessarily in tune all the time - Jane Birkin was one who Tara was compared to - Marilyn Monroe was another person who could express vulnerability when she sang - she didn't have a great range but I love to hear her sing. Tara literally makes me cry when she sings (and no, before anyone says it, not because she's so bad). I think it's the sincerity of her effort that gets to me.

Yes, I think it must be - I like good voices too, but emotional content is equal in importance to me - Shane McGowan, Bob Dylan and Lou Reed all move me, but Robbie Williams doesn't though he can carry a tune. I just thought of another one who Tara reminds me of - Marianne Faithful

Marianne Faithfull was/is extraordinarily beautiful, though. If she had sung as badly and looked like the back end of a bus, I doubt we'd ever have heard of her. As an aside, I know someone who went to the same school as MF, but was a few years younger. She said that all the girls were in awe of MF and pretty much idolized her, because she was the Bad Girl of the school (in spite of the angelic image she had when she first appeared on the music scene). I totally see her appeal as an icon or as a (dodgy) role model for younger girls, but as a singer, nooooooo!

She`s made me cry too the last two nights even in the duet with Colin
It`s the emotion that comes from her during her perfomance.

Anyway I like Tara because she connects with the audience whether it is through her singing or whatever. Someone can be the most technically gifted singing but if there is no emotion you cannot warm to them.

If you have watched TPT over time you would recognize that she is a triumph of style over content. Shaun is content. He is a gifted comic actor. Shaun was in Extras. He manged to make Eastenders less of a cryfest. He also can sing. He struggles to make it look as if he takes himself seriously unlike Tara who struggles to think about anyone but herself. I personally object to people who learnt minimal ITV skills to connect with people who can barely wait for the advertisements to start. Comic relief is when you dont reward people like that.

I noticed that Nick has not replied to the comments about his original post.
I suspect, when referrring to "Aisleyne type people", he is referring to the unique support given to Aisleyne (Big Brother) on this forum, but not on other forums, which resulted in many FM's and punters being led astray about her true level of support. Whilst it is still true today that DS posters are often fickle and do tend to support an unlikely candidate, it is simply not true in Tara's case.
Tara's support is very widespread (witness her supremacy in last nights semi final vote) with other forums and polls all supporting her to more or less the same extent. For example, TV Polls have her at 41% this morning and FA at 38%. The last true DS poll also had her at 40%.
On this occasion, it looks like the "aisleyene type people" are much more widespread than on this forum alone. Although Tara does have the lions share of support, she is still not a clear winner but I am sure her supporters will be making a huge effort to ensure she reaches the Final and goes on to win Fame Academy.
Ah yes, the demographics. The triumph of market research. TPT may now indeed be the queen of the world of 'going on a journey' and 'making a storyline', to say nothing of doing a few lines but being well rehearsed and appearing on Jungle and Celeb Island does not make you a worthy winner, it makes you a trooper. If you are fooled and have damned statistics on your side, it doesnt get away from the fact that she is simply the ultimate reality TV product. How do you sell products? With market research.
