With the popularity of SCD and similar shows, does anyone agree this would be a good time to bring back Come Dancing (the original)?

Yeah I agree, I'd probably even watch it now I have some sort of clue what all the dances are and what they mean.

I have vague memories of watching it when I was younger but would certainly give it a go.

Didn't they have pro dancers in the bit between the individual dances and the formation dances? Just seeing and opportunity here!

An old long running ballroom dancing competition series from the BBC. It has been hosted by hosted by Terry Wogan, Angela Rippon and TheEricPollard.

So is it pro's or just random people that dance?

Well, as a dancesport enthusiast I would personally prefer to watch proper competitions rather than I would the celebrity angle of the show - I think as well as the thousands of people like me out there, people who have taken an interest in Ballroom through SCD would also be more than willing to watch just for the dancing as it's something that through the show they've taken some degree of interest in.

I think it was an amatuer competition! There are too many so called 'celebs' on TV these days!!

I loved watching Come Dancing. I'd prefer that to SCD and the celebrity watching.

Feel 100 but remember it clearly. They had areas competing so you'd have Home Counties North versus the Midlands or something. It was a knock out competition over weeks. They did ballroom, latin and formation dancing. It was amateur except for a pro demo, usually by Gaynor somebody and Donny somebody who were Latin pros and word champions. They did try to liven it up towards the end with freestyle.

Have to say SCD is miles better.

I remember watching the 'new' Come Dancing and being quite enthralled (partic by Gaynor and Donny ) but also alarmed by the tans, the make up and the rictus smiles. I feel that SCD actually takes the very best of Come Dancing and improves on it The pro dancers on SCD seem to represent the very best of Ballroom and Latin for the 21st century, rather than 1960s throwbacks. SCD rocks!

Gaynor Fairweather and Donny Burns .

And the sequins had always been sewn on by their mothers , by hand !

I think they should just televise some of the main competitions, I mean two evenings a year on Eurosport is a bit crap when we have live darts and such all year round.

They already film the British and the UK anyway, so why can't they just buy the rights to show them? I'm sure those who hold the copyright would be overjoyed to contribute towards their sport being broadcast, and to be honest I doubt it would cost all that much.

Which competitions are shown on Eurosport?

I agree, they should show more dance on TV. Not sure about Come Dancing though.

In recent years they've only shown smaller, less hotly contested competitions such as the Kremlin and the Masters, but prior to that (2003) they showed the Worlds and GOC.

Why on Earth can't they show some more of that sort of thing? I really don't understand. There's more than enough interest to make it worthwhile.

Since when did the BBC bother with public opinion?

Lucky Dancing on Ice fans. There's going to be a DVD (much requested here), a tour ( also asked for here) and a post show programme on the night.

We just keep banging our heads on the SCD wall!

I think you have a good point there about the BBC not listening!
