Not sure either to get last seasons TH42PX60 for £1000 or get the new all black one.

Is there any difference in the screen ?

Well, do you prefer black or silver?

Personally, I would get (and am getting) the 42X70CAB.

avforums.com are running a few threads on the new Panasonic Models. Check them out for more info.

PX70 has 1080p compatibility. This is the main difference as far as i can glean from the blurb.

There's also no report of purple snakes on the 70 (as far as I know).

Purple snakes is not a massive problem. We've had not one customer come in with said problem.
The px70 is a nice looking set as far a design goes however ran side by side with the px60 on any feed the 60 looks better. The image is not as crisp and the picture seems to shine less. also the black level is different. The px60 seems to give a darker shade making the image more real.

It may be 1080p compatible but doesn't have enough pixels to show native 1080p

We may have a bad one in the shop as I have seen it running elsewhere and the picture was great.

New doesn't mean 'better', it might just mean 'cheaper' - in the trade it's known as 'cost improved'

fair enough - still, love the set, DVDs look lush and the colour is natural and not that false LCD you get, black is also well black.

The purple snakes don't usually appear until the set has been running for a few months. This doesn't mean you will get the snakes just that it being snake free now doesn't mean it will continue so.
