Anything by Keith Harris & Orville, Black Lace or Craig David were designed to be in the all time top 40 worst songs.

There are some songs I cannot stand, and when they're played on the radio or MTV totally set my teeth on edge and are more painful to listen to than scraping nails down a blackboard.

Comparison? Who's comparing. Next time, before replying, read the post and TRY to understand it.

"Maybe they're trying to be the new Radiohead" meaning your comparing them to Radiohead. I know your trying to say that they might be trying to be them, but by saying that you obviously are trying to compare them, and both musically and visually as well as attitude, they are nothing like each other. Radiohead's music also doesn't rely on sales to make sure that it is released anymore. They are some of the godfathers of current music.

I can understand how you reach that conclusion but it really was just a tongue in cheek comment which you've taken too seriously. There is a certain aura of gloom to Radiohead's music and although I would hardly say that Coldplay were in that realm some of their songs are not entirely uplifting. However, I don't consider that a bad thing.
Any visual comparison didn't even cross my mind as i'm not really interested in the visual aspect of any band.
And if Radiohead are the godfathers of current music then the future looks bleak if their previous two outings are anything to go by. I just didn't get it but maybe i'm too cynical.

Radiohead's last two outings were inspired mainly by Aphex Twin, and other kinds of music like that, that they listen to.

They are evolving and changing and sounding different every album, which is something that all credible musicians should do.

U2 however, are credible but are just producing the same tired ld crap. Thats a band I can't understand. The lyrics aren't very good, even if they do "make a point", the music is junior school like at best... I just don't get how a band can write music for 20 years and only have the POP album show diversity and progression... and even when that flopped... did they stick to their artist integrity?? no, they just pumped out more purile boring crap.

Lest we not forget, Sweetest Thing was released 15 years after it was written, and it sounded as fresh as the rest of their music since.

Good comment Peej but artistic credibility is worth nothing if your audience deserts you. I'm all for artists exploring new direction but if they go completely off kilter then they risk alienating a large proportion of their audience which they often won't get back. It's a sad fact that many fans expect a band to churn out the same album again and again (and let's not have a pop at Status Quo here) and any attempt at exploring new directions can either be seen as a sell out or progression into shoe gazing territory.
I'm always interested in how an artist develops but I won't necessarily buy a new album by an artist i've supported in the past if I don't like the new direction.

I brought one of those little keyboard thingys at the time that the band used.. I was in a flat share and drove everyone mad with its clicking sounds. .

I also had a calculator, that you could get to play tunes(one track only, and just 'beeps' for the notes... It took about 1 hour to program the notes for a 1 minite piece of music. yet, at the time, seemed really 'cutting edge'. (round about the late 1980 I think).

Ahhh the Casio VL Tone, I'd have killed for one of those at the time...
