I love her but i feel this storyline is going to be rushed and then Stella will get the usual "villian comeuppance"...

Hope she's in EE a while yet. She's great

Sophie Thompson's contract lasts a year I think - and she arrived in September/Octor - so I suppose she is onscreen for another eight to nine months?

But how can a character like this stay in the show for a longer period of time? All characters like Stella have short stints and that is it, i doubt she will stay on.

She is so good at her character that she actually scares me, which is frightening for a 18 year old like me.

If they develop a storyline that she's mentally ill, gets help and Phil supports her, then she could be around for a long time yet...

all i can say is poor ben, the actress is brilliant, she plays very well, quite scary with them evil looks and comments., lets hope she gets caught out very quickly as i find it hard to see a child being terrifed and abused

Do you really think Phil will stand by her when he finds out about her abusing Ben - even if she is mentally ill?

As for how long she'll be around: She'll be gone by the end of the year. Characters like that have a limited shelf life. There's no way she'll be able to stick around once it comes out about her abusing Ben.

Hasn't it been confirmed this will run until Christmas? if thats true it most likely will reach its head around the festive season. No doubt it will be violent. You know how EastEnders love a happy Xmas

If she's mentally ill it's not her fault. I hope you never have to suffer from dealing with someone like that.

It could be interesting to see the storyline develop into a study of mental illness and Phil supporting Stella - yet with Jean Slater joining the cast full time this area is already very well covered. I also remember hearing or reading somewhere that Sophie Thompson will only stay for a year - I also heard that Shirley becomes involved in the storyline at some point; this could be how her and Phil end up together.

its not about the suffering, and end of the day we are talking about a soap, so please do not mention me suffering with it as i found that very rude and offensive, i mentioned the characters, not the actress her self, thats trouble on here with some people, they dont understand between real life and soap life, and yes if it was real life i would not let anyone near my child who has abused them, whether they were mentally ill or not, i could not allow that knowing what they can be capable of, end of the day my children come before anyone, its very sad if the person is suffering from a mental ilness but you cant risk the life of your children, well i know i cant, you probably CAN thats if you have any.

I think you'll find you're being the offensive one. The bolded comment was so uncalled for that it's unreal. I never said anything about YOU suffering with ANYTHING. I said I hope you never have to deal with anyone who is mentally ill, because of your ignorant views on how "Phil should have Ben taken off him" if he supported her.

If anyone on here suffers from a mental illness and reads that comment about kids being taken away from people, it could cause great upset and offence. It's a soap, but mental illness is REAL, and should be treated as such.

If you'd open your eyes and stop being so ignorant and trying to come back on me with pathetic insults and out of order comments you might realise that.

I'm sorry but I disagree with this comment entirely. Sophie Thompson is a ray of light and her storyline and acting are both fantastic. She's doing excellent and if you can't see that she is part of one of the better and stronger storylines of the moment then I would suggest you look at what else is happening in the Square...

no i dont think im being offensive at all, and its you that has a bit of a problem, its a flipping soap, i was giving out my view, i have just a same right as everyone else, if phil was to help the psycho, then in my view it would be unfair to ben as hes only a child, and would already be so terrified of her and in such a bad way, and then his father suporting the woman whose tried doing so much to him, abuse him and bring him to much harm would be unfair to him as he would be feeling so vulnerable anyway. thats why i made that comment, i would stick by it 100%, end of the day ben is phils priority, and ben should come first as hes only a child, and phil has always said that ben will come first no matter what, lets hope he sorts her out and then hands her over to happy farm. i cant see phil supporting some woman who hes only known 2 minutes to actually support her over his own flesh as its not in his character, but if he did then ben should be taken away from him or maybe go and stay with ian as the last person that ben would want to see is stella, ben would not understand that she abused him because she had a mental illness but because she wanted to. who could blame him,
and dont call me ignorant and my comments pathetic because they are least that

You have serious problems with respect to people. Your comments are offensive to people with mental illnesses. Sending Stella to the 'Happy farm'? That is ignorant.

That's the sort of stuff I was getting at. No point though, some people just aren't worth it.

You don't seem to be grasping that the issue is not with a soap character, but your ignorance towards mental illness as a real condition.
