Soap Charector Names. Anyone else Noticed This??

Is it just me or does everyone else in real life know 2 or more people with the same first name???

Yet in soaps, no two people have the same names at the same time?

I find that quite strange.

Can anyone prove me wrong here??

I completely agree with you. I was thinking the exact same thing last night. Where I work there are 3 Claire's and 2 James' how unreal are these soaps! The only one I can think of is Jamie Mitchell and Jim Brannin, their names were virtually the same! I know, I'm just clutching at straws here!

Their names always suit them too. Imagine Barry being called Tristran or Alexander or something?

Big Mo and Little Mo and there was Jackie Corkhill and Jacqui Dixon in Brookside.

I think it would just be too confusing if there were too many people with the same names. Even in real life I get confused as I know 2 people called Janet, one who I know and one who I'm friends with. If you mention one, someone always assumes it's the other your talking about.

In Coronation Street, you used to have Bet Gilroy, Betty Turpin / Willimas & Liz McDonald. All names derived from Elizabeth.

Weird that not many people in the Street cottoned onto it or at least have it mentioned at one time or another.

Also isn't it strange that you don't see anyone in these soaps sit down and watch The Bill, The Weakest Link, The Simpsons, Ready Steady Cook... lol

In Emmerdale currently there is baby Jean, and Bob's ex-wife Jean, but other than that I have noticed it. And with reference to the Bet/Betty thing, there's still that difference that keeps people from getting them mixed up

I think that Brookie is the exception - they often have two or more characters with the same name, although they are never in the soap at the same time.

For example, there used to be Terry Sullivan, and they have just had psycho Terry from Manchester

There was also Emily Shadwick (O Leary) and there used to be another Emily - Max's daughter that was killed

Thats not what I meant.

I meant at the same time.
For example I know half a dozen Sarah's, not 1 from one year to another and another from another to another year. The same time.

And what's football managers got to do with anything?? lol
