Will "Neighbours" Ever Catch Up with Oz Pace in the UK?
BeatJunkie

I've been wondering.

I know the show goes on hiatus for a few weeks every Summer in Australia, so shouldn't we gradually cacth up with the Australian pace here in the UK?

Or will Wimbledon always ensure that we are a couple months behind? There are also rumours that "first chance" episodes will begin airing on BBC Three, much in the same way that additional episodes of "Home and Away" air on Five Life.

So, will we ever catch up Australia on this wonderful soap?

I doubt we ever will due to contractual reasons. There's probably some clause in the contract that we have to stay a minimum of x weeks behind Network 10 - but i'm just guessing here.

If this is the case, I assume the BBC Three episodes would stop during the Wimbledon/Xmas breaks here in the UK.

If the UK ever did catch up with Oz then they would just take it off air for a while so the UK was behind again!

I think we will soon as when I watched it when I was at school (some 15yrs ago) we were 2 and half years behind and now we are around 48 episode away (Ive just watched season 23 ep 50 and we have just started on season 23 in the UK)

True, but during Wimbledon this year that will increase by 10. Plus the Easter bank holidays (does Neighbours air? I can't remember!), which will increase it by a bit more.

It is doubtful, it is off air in the UK for anything from 2-6 weeks a year (depending on what summer sporting events are on). At one point we were two years behind, then we went down to around 3 weeks and are now back up to about nine. It really depends on the ebb and flow over the medium term.

Of course, if we did catch up, it would be pulled for a few weeks. As happened with Home and Away when it was still on ITV.

I would like it if the UK were not so far behind Oz, although I do watch at Oz pace, but if the UK were only 2-4 weeks behind then I'd probably watch it on tv in UK. It's only because we are so far behind I watch at Oz pace.

I am really looking forward to next week
Spoiler
for the London episodes and Stingray dying- thats going to be so sad!!!
