He is, or was, Chief Scout!

    http://www.scouts.org.uk/aboutus/media/PeterDuncan.htm

I thought he was really good on Blue Peter and Duncan Dares. I'm sure he's a brilliant asset for the Scouts. The 'news'paper is just muckraking, as usual.

Didn't he also have a small role in Dr Who at one point? Or am I confusing him with another Blue Peter presenter? Peter Purves is ringing a bell too.

I remember the fuss all those years back. He did what he did back then to earn a crust and has spoken up about his past.

On the good side. I think it commendable that his position of trust as Scout Head says much more about the people who gave him that role, and he certainly has not let those people down.

He had a part in that Flash Gordon film - he was the one who had to stick his hand in the tree stump!

    Thanks for that fcat. :)

Funnily enough I did hear a recent radio interview with the Chief Scout (Peter Duncan) but I assumed that the person just had the same name as the former Blue Peter presenter. I'm glad that he still has a fairly high profile career and wish him well. Like you,I liked him in his television days.

I think he was also nicknamed 'Blue Peter', but only because somebody found a few dusty old tapes in a loft featuring him in action :D

My father in law, who was a scout leader for over 40 years severed all conections with the scouts when P.D. was made chief scout! Just shows what a lot of pompous little nobodies used to run the thing doesn't it? As for the 'porn' bit, a fuss over nothing. You see 10 times worse on primetime these days.

He also did a nightly full frontal in a tour of a comedy play with a fully clothed Linda Lusardi - can't remember its name - in the late 1980s. Doubt there are any photos ... luckily for him, digital cameras weren't around then!

It was called 'Funny, Peculiar'. I saw the original in London in 1975 with Richard Beckinsale and Matthew Kelly!!

Peter Duncan wrote a letter to the Guardian this weekend in response to allegations of a porn past:

BP always does seem to have been ever so slightly mucky ever since Christopher Trace got fired for having an extra marital affair back in the 60's.

    It's a revelation.

He joined Blue Peter in 1980, and shortly afterwards it was revealed in a tabloid newspaper that Duncan had appeared nude in the British film The Lifetaker (1975). Although this revelation was an apparent embarrassment to the BBC, they accepted that as he had done this before Blue Peter and it would not - and did not - affect his tenure on Blue Peter.

Unusually, Duncan did two stints with Blue Peter, being on the team from 1980 to 1984, and again from 1985 to 1986. During his stay with the programme, he became associated with the kind of daredevil stunts previously popularised by John Noakes, and these continued in his own spin-off series, Duncan Dares. After leaving permanently in 1986, he returned to the stage, most notably in the musicals Barnum, Me and My Girl and The Card for which he was nominated for an Olivier award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Peter Duncan also appeared in Equus, at the Palace Theatre in Westcliff in the late 70's - I think he might have been the first nude man I ever saw :o

i heard he is also deeply religous now so i guess if he was tempted to do another seedy film he could always insist on it being called Porn Again. :D:D:D

Possible interesting fact, Petr Duncan starred in a real film in 1980, he along with unknown actor at the time Timothy Dalton in the film "FLASH GORDON".

He produces and appears in a 'Silent comedy' on FIVE where he and his 'family' pretend they live on a holiday camp.

Garden rakes, buckets of water and long ladders waved about by flat-cap wearing workmen are all present and correct. Bizzarely, he has a 'leggy' retired Page 3 'burd' from the eighties pretending to be his missus.

    Its VERY odd.

Peter Duncan was NOT sacked from "Blue Peter", although the tabloid revelation that he appeared nude in "The Lifetaker" (1975) did cause the BBC some embarassment at the time (1980). :o

Additionally, Janet Ellis was not sacked in 1987 for being pregnant out of wedlock - it was entirely her decision to leave, in order to concentrate on being a full-time mother. Plus, the baby itself was not Sophie Ellis Bextor (born 1979) but her half-brother, Jackson Leach.

As for Richard Bacon...he was the first presenter to have his contract terminated in mid-run - but not the first to be fired, at all. Before him, Leila Williams (in 1962), Christopher Wenner (in 1980) and the late Michael Sundin (in 1985) were all shown the door when their contracts came up for renewal - each for different reasons. ;)

And we all know why the late Christopher Trace (in 1967) did not get his contract renewed.

He is chief scout until July. Bear Grylls then takes over.

I didn't know as it was before my time. I've just looked him up on Wiki and he got sacked cos his wife found out he was having an affair with a 19 yr old hotel receptionist during a BP 'culture embracing' summer expedition to Norway. Is this correct?

    True.

Just wondered why this thread has been resurrected after two years?
