Could it be that if anyone new raises their head above the parapets they don't get discussion, just the basis of their views mocked and rubbished?”

Interesting comment but not true. I assume I'm one of the 5 or 6 people you are refering to. There are some 10 or 11 Doctor Who threads on the first page of this forum and I'm participating in just 2 of them and only really this one actively. Surely if the aim was to rubbish the new show then I'd be in as many of them as possible causing trouble. Some threads do get hijacked but thats true for the both the pro's and the con sides of the argument. I personally tend to avoid posting on Doctor Who threads as much as possible these days because it's not fun to be negative. I only get involved when I feel I've something to say, in this case it was in response to your remarks. Regardless of that, the threads seem pretty active so where's the evidence that people aren't taking part?

it is a bloody good story Yoonix. lots of layers and you see a different side to The Doctor as the dynamics in the story shifts.

can't say too much unless you want me to PM you with the details?

I can live without them. Any childish elements? Fart gags? Who's directing it? What happened to Euros?

director is Charles Palmer who is the son of the actor Geoffrey Palmer I believe.

no childish elements that I am aware of. deals with a lot of emotion.

no idea what's happened to the lovely Euros!

I'm afraid you just have to read the last few pages of this thread Rooks, or in fact the last few pages of virtualy any Who thread. Or even see how long it takes at the start of a Dr Who thread, usualy on the first page, it is getting a tad repetative. This is how nearly every Who thread ends up, it's a pretty sad state of affairs to be honest.

I guess with little new material to discuss the same subjects will come up with each and every one us making similar points as before and expanding on them.

I agree, but it is understandable, to me anyway, when a FM makes a post, not insulting anyone's intelligence or anyone's opinions, but saying they liked this or liked that, only to have it replied a sarcastic comment and a so of course they are going to respond. It does happen way to many times in the Who threads unfortunately. It's starting to put me off so no doubt it has the same effect for other FMs who just want to post and share opinions in good spirit, for and against a show.

that cuts both ways though Camera in any debate..with people using smilie symbols to illustrate sarcasm even when making what they consider a positive point against a negative one. I have been guilty of using the rolling eyes myself of late in sheer exasparation but only as a last resort I hope. as I say tempers on both sides of the fence have been fraught to say the least as when you have a series like Who which everyone has a passionate opinion about then it is bound to happen.

It does cut both ways BG, but there is a tendency in the Who threads to bait the fans that like the show, warts and all.

If someone says they like an RTD script undoubtedly the next post will be along the lines of 'If you like farting aliens that's up to you' How many times have Who fans read that they are having their intelligence insulted by the show, or to say they only like the show because they are blinded by a love of RTD. It really is old and lacking originality now, and when an Fm does stand up for themselves, as Dr Thete said, it is usually the same FMs that have a pack mentality and turn the thread into a series of baiting and sarcastic posts that kills any interest for genuine discussion for other FMs, myself included, until the thread becomes nothing but the same FMs posting amongst themselves. It happens nearly all the time and for me misses the while point of this forum where opinions should be shared. Why zap all the fun of posting here for other FMs, who on the whole gladly read critics of the show and respond accordingly, but can you blame them when their posts are rubbished all the time by the same small group of FMs.

Of course it would be a dull place if we all thought the same but it is becoming an even duller place having FMs genuine views of the show, whilst not insulting other FMs in their posts, to be constantly looked down upon by a small group that constantly hijack and kill off any thread.

A bit of a harsh post I know but it does seem that this what is happening I'm afraid.

I'm avoiding any baiting threads from now on, more than happy to share thoughts on the show but getting into and reading slanging matches is wearing a little thin

I don't enter into a debate with the intention of it turning into a slanging match either. I would much rather have a sensible discussion than bicker but at the same time if someone is being rude/snotty/patronising/etc then that is not acceptable. I take responsibility for my part in what happened yesterday and I am in no way trying to justify it but the person in question has a history of doing what they did and then cutting and running once things have been suitably stirred up.

I am not going to apologise for not liking RTD's style of writing for Who but have praised him for his other output with the likes of QAF, Casanova etc so I am not totally anti RTD as some would make out that I am. If they choose to see it that way then that is regrettable but sometimes people have their own agenda in seeing and hearing what they want to.

It works both ways though. I've seen many a thread with comments like "RTD is a genius and anyone who disagrees is an idiot". That's just as bad right?

But here's what I've noticed myself and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. There is no middle ground. If you say something bad about the series then you are set upon. That's how some threads end up in one or two posters bitching between themselves. I can only speak for myself here but I rarely go on threads with the aim of derailing them or getting involved in verbal fighting. The vast majority of Doctor Who threads I just don't post in because I've nothing to add. I certainly don't wander into a thread, see a positive comment and go out of my way to rubbish it. There's a thread around at the moment regarding expectations for the new series and I made negative comments (something like "I've very low expectations because of Season 2's disappointment") yet that kind of comment is likely to get you branded in this forum. Hardly fair is it, is it any wonder I end up fighting back? You might be slightly surprised to find out that I actually do like some of the new Doctor Who.

In this instance, I got involved because Thete had made a comment regarding remarks that I'd made in a post sometime ago (actually he was probably talking about a different poster but it was relevant to comments I made too) and felt I needed to reply to that.

Davies will not be writing Doctor Who forever, of course, and that is a major headache for the BBC.

Yeah Right!

BBC-"He's gone! Let the party begin!"
RTD- "I don't need them"

RTD ends up jobless living on the streets of cardiff untill the bbc re-employ him- but only to make tea for the head office
