Anybody who intends to watch and vote the Champions Skate.....
SunshineCat11

For anybody who intends to watch next weekend the champion of champions, and vote afterwards, please consider these points first in order to make a fair judgment:

1. This is DANCING on ice, not pairs skating, or skating on ice - therefore this means, as in the Olympics, the couples have to perform dance routines with skill, lifts and skating all within the programme. It therefore goes without saying that a good skater is not the winner if he is not very good at dancing or perfection in lifting or being lifted. Girls have to be lifted therfore the female celebrities must be judged on their ability to hold lifts which requires considerable strength, concentration and trust in their parter whilst the male celebs have to lift which requires the strength to lift, skating and balance. Each sex must therefore be judged independantly and differrently.

2. It's a clean slate for all contenders - no consideration should be made to any journeys, age, previous preference - they should all be judged not only on their own ability, but the over all performance and unity with their partner from scratch and on what we see on the night only.

3. We have to judge on skating, dancing and performance skills together not on any one feature as it is "Dancing on Ice" therefore time spent with feet on the ice is an unfair and sexest judgment against the women who merely by what is expected within the performance have to be lifted at varying points. Therefore male and female celebs should be judged independently of each other, and my vote will go to the over all celeb I consider has achieved best from all 3 criterior and what aspects of the performance they personally are expected to execute. Like Robin Cousins said last night, the skill and accuracy with which the girls leave the ice and return to it is marked on a par with the skill of the male to lift, hold and poise during the lift. That's how it's judged in the olympics and that's how I shall judge it. I just think several people have lost touch with this crucial fact and vote purely on speed skating!

Totally agree. The female celebs don't have it easier than the males and the males don't have it harder than the females. They're utilising quite different skills and that should be taken into account.

Agree completely.

But I just have a feeling Kyran will win again due to his personality and previous performances. They all should be judged on the performances on the night instead of in the past, which I think is what happened on the final.

But it isn't the Olympics. It's a celebrity talent/popularity contest. There are no rules that people at home have to judge by. It's just 'vote for your favourite' - and people get to decide what favourite means to them.

By the way, most of the lifts they do are illegal in competitive ice dance, and an ice dance couple would be penalised for performing them. But luckily, as I said above, viewers don't have to know that. They just have to vote for their favourite.

It's more like a professional ice dancing competition, where there aren't restrictions and rules. That's why they also have the props and flying routines, which you don't have in amateur competition. Look at any of the World Pro Championship routines on youtube and you'll see that DOI is more in line with that.

That is, unless the Dan fans get voting for Gaynor

My comments were specifically in response to the OP who was asking people to think 'Olympics' when they vote. My point is that the OP can't tell people what they should be considering when they vote. People can, should, and in fact are invited to vote for anything they want to. The 'vote for your favourite' invitation is pretty open.

It's a celebrity popularity/talent contest. Some people will vote because they think someone is best (and on that note, let's face it, few of us are qualified to truly judge 'best' in this context), some people will vote because they like the celebrity, some because they think the celebrity has improved or been on a journey or some other reality show cliche... whatever, it's their right and I defend them when they do.

(I never vote.)

Are you an expert in this field? or is it just your opinion? I do not think you can dictate to viewers regarding the voting. I shall vote for who I like & who I think is the best at skating. I do not need hectoring on the subject - I am a grown woman & can make my own mind up -- thankyou!

At the end of the day, Dancing on Ice is suppose to be about entertainment ... we are all going to like different people for different reasons.

Much as I love DOI, it's just a skating competition on the telly. It's not life or death. Aren't we all getting a bit too worked up about this?

Thank you for patronising us all!

Like many others - I will vote for the skater (male or female) who shows the most skill on the night!

That will not be the one who spends the most time in the air - or the one one whose shortcomings are best disguised by their partner - it will be the one who SKATES and "Dances on Ice" the best!

I won't be voting because its a rip off but I doubt the most perfect on the night will win. I'm looking forward to seeing Stephan again.

As much as it might be the ideal to vote for the best couple on the night, I do feel that the couple who you feel have given the best, entertaining and consistant performance over several weeks of dedicated viewing will get my vote.

This is not like an Olympic ice dancing championship which should be judged on a few intense routines over a few days.

This is a Saturday night prime time entertainment and I will vote for whoever is not only the best skating couple overall, but who has given me such wonderful entertainment for several weeks

Last Christmas, my daughter bought us tickets for 'Cinderella on Ice' as my present. At first I thought, 'WHAT THE?!?!' and imagined it would be really tacky.

I went on to have one of the most wonderful evenings ever. The skaters were Russian champions and it was fantastic! It cost about £50

Over that last weeks, I have had some of the most fantastic ice dancing entertainment for a few pounds which covers the cost of the calls when I've voted. It could have cost me £0.

I will enjoy the Champion of Champions this Saturday as a great night's entertainment and will vote for the best and most entertaining couple in the contest
