This is a stupid issue. She fell pregnant so what. What if she had fallen ill for example would we still be berating her? This is just as likely to happen to a man!

There's the rub isn't it. My friend - when she was on Mat Leave - used to chunter on a regular basis that if she was off sick she would be far better off - because sick leave ran at 6 months' full pay and 6 months half pay and mat leave at that time ran at 13 weeks full pay and 13 weeks half pay, and you were entitled to another 26 weeks off but you had than unpaid.
