Les, Cilla & Chesney move away when Cilla discovers her cancer has returned - they move abroad to enjoy their final days in the sun...Les and Ches then stay out there, Kirk joins them after spitting from Fiz
Builder Chris Hewitt (44) moves into No.5 with his wife Ruth their 16 year old daughter Lucy and Chris' Mother ex Rovers barmaid Concepta.
Chris would be old school Corrie man - very much like his Father Harry and Len Fairclough.
Ruth would be the opposite of many Corrie women - shy, timid, scared of Chris who expects his tea on the table.
Lucy is a very Joss Stone type hippy chick who strikes up a friendship with Rosie Webster - that starts unfounded rumours about them being lesbians - which in turn makes Sally panic and starts encouraging Rosie to date loads of boys and to forget about her schoolwork.
Concepta has just lost her 2nd 'husband' Bob...they never married much to the annoyance of Chris - so he insisted she move in with them to protect her after Bob's children conned her out of the house and all their money. Doreen Keogh is fab as Mary in Royle Family - would love her to return as she has friends in the Street - Ken, Emily, Betty
The return of Debbie Webster who walked out on her boyfriend after he cheated on her - she punched him and left - hurt by many failed relationships over the years she returns to Kevin and his family to rebuild her life and maybe even get married and have kids herself.
After the death of Paul Connor - Carla Connor leaves too leaving Liam looking for a new partner who arrives in the form of one Angie Freeman who runs her own business Freeman Fabric down South. Angie spotted the chance to buy into the place where she started out and grabs it - having hunky Liam to gaze at doesn't bother her too much. She just makes sure she doesn't keep red wine in her office to keep mixing business with pleasure.
Angie is harder on the factory women than either Paul or Danny was - she's had to be tough to survive - so out goes Sean, Joanne, and Kelly - who we never see again.
Sean lies and deceives his friends once too often and is shunned by the street.
Kelly cannot handle having Becky in the factory - after Angie takes a shine to her so she leaves
Joanne and Adam drive on into the sunset - they don't deserve a big or memorable exit.
A BIG BIG storyline for Hayley - Julie Hesmondhalgh deserves another chance to shine...she starts her own halfway home and runs it with the help of Gail who uses her many bad experiences to help others.
Jack and Vera win the lottery and retire in Australia - they pay for Tyrone and Molly to come too.
No.9 is bought by Emily's niece Freda who returns to be nearer her - she arrives with her husband and 2 children
Suzie Birchall turns up looking for forgiveness from Gail for trying to seduce Brian - Gail is prepared to forgive and forget until behind Suzie walks 23 year old Briony
AND MOST CONTROVERSIAL OF ALL
A bit depressing but I don't think Corrie has ever tackled the death of a child (apart from Shannon Tattersall and Susan Schofield in the 60's)....in this case Ryan Connor who will disappear for 3 weeks and then will be found dead - murdered by someone Emily has successfully campaigned to be released from jail after serving 32 years for the "accidental" death of a teenager when he was the same age. After Ed pleading for forgiveness about Ernest's death, Emily is convinced this man too has paid his debt to society and thinks he should be given a second chance at life. Hayley takes him into the halfway house and he wanders among the unsuspecting residents
Emily is shattered by the news of Ryans murder by the man she campaigned for and will withdraw into herself - giving up her church, hospital visits even leaving her house - Blanche lays into her and people avoid her in the street...the only one who stands by her is Freda, Norris and Rita. This will be a good showcase for both Kim Ryder and the always excellent Eileen Derbyshire.
