Over on the news page of Outpost Gallifrey, they're reporting that RTD has confirmed there will be a fourth series, woo-hoo! Of course we all knew it was going to happen but nice to have it made definite at last.

Bill Turnbull also said there would be a fourth series on BBC Breakfast this morning.

Hurrah! Nice to finally hear it from the horses mouth, so to speak (sorry RTD, you're not a horse, of course).

Is anyone else getting jolly excited at the though of S3 a week on Satruday?

Fantastic news. Will someone tell Traken82 . If he ratings are good for this series they will already be planning 5 and 6.

Yes, also in the same interview (from last might's press launch), it was confirmed that there was no confirmation that DT will be in S4 (in other words, DT was non-committal about S4) if you see what I mean.

I think in order to stick to canon, they really need to kind of limit the regeneration thing now. Unless they plan on covering the time wars at some point.

i heard on the news this morning that Matt Lucas from Little Britain is interested in playing The Doctor for the Forth Series. that would be excellent.

Good god, no. I can think of far better choices.

Matt Lucas is one of Britains best character actors, he can get himself into nearly any part, serious, funny, wacky, mental and straight.

Wanting to play the part is a long way from actually being offered the part. After all, there are many actors who would love to play The Doctor these days. But few will get the call. He's probably "flying a kite"

wait. is he the short fat one, or the tall one?

either way, I'd rather they took doctor who away from the teenage comedy audience they appear to be going for from time to time. I have to say, I have a preference for torchwood in that respect

without wishing to be pessimistic, going by the BBC's track record regarding being non commital regarding whether someone is staying/leaving I think we can take it as read that DT will be jumping ship either at the end of series 3 or will only appear in some of series 4.

Yes, that's my reading as well.

I guess they want to keep it as a surprise whenever it does happen but I hope they don't string the audience along in the same way they did with Billie's future with the series which was mishandled imo.

I will be very sorry to see DT go but all good things have to come to an end at some point and I will always appreciate the energy and passion he gave to the part and Who.

What's the betting that it won't be kept a secret, that someone will leak it to one of the tabloids long before the BBC actually admit to it.

or the BBC themselves deliberately leak the info which is not unheard of either and then don't confirm or deny the story.

Yes, that seems to be common practice these days.

Whether by accident or design, each new series has had a new headline-grabbing element at it's start - a new Doctor or companion. This always helps to keep the show fresh I suppose.
When Christopher Ecclestone quit, RTD and the gang wanted to keep it secret and spring a surprise regeneration at the end of series 1. That didn't happen, of course. Now I can't help feeling they'll try harder next time - so it almost feels inevitable that DT's departure will be a 'surprise' one (depending on leaks).
And so, the Christmas special and start of series 4 will once again have that headline-grabbing element to it.
Personally, I'd really like to see DT do a traditional three year stint.

be good to see the series end on a genuine cliff hanger that is resolved in the Christmas special. Afraid I don't count Donna the bride materialising inside the TARDIS as A cliff hanger. A shock yes but as we knew she was only going to be in one episode we knew there was a resolution, rather than seeing a major tussle between The Doctor and.......or a regeneration of one or two characters.

I wonder, if there is such a cliffhanger, whether the identity of the new Doctor could be kept a secret until Christmas?

Is it possible that John Simm will end up really being the next Doctor? I don't read all the rumours but heard he is involved in this series with speculation on him being the master? maybe really the Doctor tho? I want DT to stay for a bit longer! at least another season! PLEASE!!
