I really doubt it, Simm has an aversion to long running roles. He's admitted it's because of him that Life On Mars is ending this season (the season was originally going to end on a cliffhanger and be tied up in a special) and it was apparently not easy to get him to do that much. He's complained about being away from his family for 6 months, so doubt he'd want to do an 8 month Doctor Who stint.

If he is that Master one hopes they'll be able to keep hold of him for a while, if it's just a couple of weeks shooting in Cardiff once a year or so.

david tennant has said that he is contracted for 3 years so that would take him to 2008, so i would fully expect him to do season 4. then it would be up to the BBC to re-negotiate his contract and from what i've read and heard so far that might not be an impossibillity. maybe DT could beat tom bakers record WHO knows.......get it?

Could you point us to the source please, headred?

both he, and RTD have mentioned it several times, and i think that if you check through the archive news items on the official website you'll find it there somewhere, but it's deffo a fact. that DT has a 3 year contract.

Searched through there and the nearest thing I could find is someone asking whether he's signed for three years in a message attached to the original news of him becoming Doctor number 10.

I've also searched the web generally with nothing confirmed anywhere, only 'refusals to comment' from spokespeople.

Maybe you're confused because of stories like this about him signing up for the third series, not his.

Nah but you see good ol' John has said in almost every interview he's been in that he cannot bare to spend so much time away from family. He has a wife and five-year-old son. I'd hate to be seperated so long, personally.

that's why dipping in and out of something like Who, if he is The Master, will allow him the freedom to do other projects and not keep him tied to a particular series for long periods of time.

Simm also said recently that he would like to play a part that his young lad would be able to watch his dad in.

Thats the thought in my head as well, I know all the rumours point to him being The Master, but something doesnt add up and I dont know what. Hell of a surprise and well kept secret if it does happen though.

What made me think this is the LOM cast on Soccer Am saying that he was playing The Master, they just wouldnt do that under strict orders from the BBC, knowing the question would no doubt crop up.

John Simm's satements about not committing to a 'long part' (no innuendos please BG ) seem a little strange from an upcoming actor and may be a red herring.

Still no harm reading way too much into things as I probably am doing.

I think he will make an excellent Master, but an even better DR Hell, he even dresses like CE's DR in Life On Mars

I posted a while back I think there is some connection between LOM and Dr Who..God knows what though.

Still, at least Im giving my brain some much needed exercise

Just a thought, when is the last episode of LOM and John Simms appearence in DR Who??

LoM ends early April and Simm will be in Who towards the end of June/beginning of July depending on if it gets an uninterrupted run.

Now you see this is where my rather weak theory comes crashing down in flames..oh bugger.

To be honest I think Derek Jacobi would make a better Master, for some reason to me the Master should be an older more menacing guy, but Ive now doubt John Simm is more than capable for the role. Im looking forward to see how it all pans out.

Ah..I didn't know it'd gone on record that John Simm doesn't like long lasting roles...still, it all may be a red herring with the master to throw off a "surprise" regeneration and him ending up the Doctor instead and he could just end up doing a Christopher Eccleston and doing it for a season and regenerating YET again with maybe the inevitable plot explaining away more generations!! I dunno! my head will explode thinking about it! hopefully DT is staying put

Given that Series 3 has been shrouded in secrecy all this time it does seem somewhat careless to have inside people going public with major plot spoilers like this.
Misinformation? I think so. All the elements are there, but, as you say, something doesn't add up.

Well, this is the third series and by now the bods at the Beeb know how the rumour mongering works and should have picked up a few clues as to how to manipulate things.
Just for a laugh, why not let it be known (off the record) that The Master is returning, announce John Simm as appearing at the end of the series and be cagey about David Tennant's future on the show? Don't give them any official details and let them tie themselves up in knots with theories. With any luck the tabloids will get wind of this and start printing their own stories - instant free publicity.
And this is where we find ourselves - joining the dots between these little nuggets of information and getting half truths, methinks.
I love the theory about JS becoming the next Doctor and feel it could be close to the truth. Something's going to happen. Like everyone else, I just don't know what.
And don't you just love it?

I am surprised no one has posted the news that David Tennant has signed up for a full 4th season. This was reported in The Daily Mirror I think. This is great news and means he will have done at least 3 years

I think (don't quote me on it) he said that when he was interviewed shortly after getting the part. That he wanted to be the longest serving doctor.

I agree there should be maybe two hours special episode of "Time War" it would be very interesting.. as I suspect Time War was where Paul McGann (Former Doctor) got injured & regenerated into Christopher Eccleston.. That would make good connection from Doctor Who movie (1996) to new series perhaps... you think so?
