New soap coming soon - a spin off of the Royal! (spoilers for main show included)
Media Guardian has confirmed a new soap from the same writers as the Royal. It will be called 'The Royal Today' and 50 episodes have been ordered. Even Lizzie will be in it, in her 50's. There will also be a Doctor, Jill adn Gordons son, Dr Jonathan Ormerod! I am SOOOOO excited about this!
http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcas...040086,00.html I heard about this from YTV staff when on the Emmerdale weekend (and mentioned this on the shows wiki page) but didnt realy believe it, this is fab!

Well I watch Neighbours at dinner time so it'll not bother me. I assume it will be on at 5 o'clock. I dont think they would go against Neighbours as they wouldnt do very well as that is established. I hopeit does well and more episodes are added, I can't wait!

About September I think!
As they'll be using the same sets they will have to wait till the main show is finished filming series 7 I think!

5 per week, each half an hour. I assume more will be made if they are popular!

Yeah, well it's the same hospital. Thats loads more location shooting to see in Scarborough. Not many soaps are made in real life places so this is fab. They may use more of the town now as obviously they dont need to 60's-ify it.

I told you all ITV were going to make a daytime soap set in a hospital. Mind you I allways assumed it would be a corrie spin off.

Big question: What time will they put it on? 2 pm it will play opposite Doctors which is already quite well established. 2.30 Doctors still on (until 2.35). 3.00-4.00 bad time: Mums are picking up the kids from school. 4.00-4.30 ?? 4.30 (perhaps) as a lead in to a 5.00 talk show to rival P O'G and R & J. 5.30 IMO not possible as it will not play on UTV (local news) and so will be a day behind...

I think the idea is to take some of the Neighbours viewers to the new daytime drama.

So if it's The Royal, but today, is it going to be set in a emergency department like Casualty?

Oh I don't like the sound of that - we've got Casualty, Holby City, Doctors and all the US hospital series. The charm of The Royal to me was it's setting in the 50's, made it more interesting.

It will have the same writers as The Royal and Heartbeat. Even an Emmerdale writer writes for qall shows too, so it has some good people behind it.
It will be the same hospital, same idea, just today! Sounds fab!

More characters revealed- "New characters will include surgeons Mr Woods and Mr Patel, anaesthetist Dr Alana Sczymansky and two student nurses." The show is casting right now and will begin shooting late spring. |

I can't imagine this. The building seems so small to be a proper nowadays hospital.
