Discreet Numbers

Anybody know anything about Discreet Numbers? My mobile started ringing but cut off almost immediately after playing two notes of the ringtone. It showed 'missed call',didn't recognise the number, dialed it and got a message saying "Welcome to Discreet Numbers. This number is not in service. For more information visit our website www.discreetnumbers.co.uk". I hung up and looked up the website but can't find it. Is this some sort of scam?

Ok,just answered my own question! Rang Virgin Mobile customer service,it's a scam, they ring you and cut off,if you ring the number back you get charged £2! The number in question is 07040839696. Make a note of it,if you get this number coming up as a missed call ignore and delete it.

Generally speaking, you shouldn't phone anyone back unless you know who they are.
If it's important they will leave a message.
You should read the stories posted on here of people who have given personal information away to strangers who call up.

Generally speaking 070 numbers tend to be "personal" numbers and are classed as premium rates. Though the rates can vary.

They look like mobile numbers to trick you into calling them back but no mobiles begin 070.

One of the late night phone-in radio presenters round here gives out "his personal mobile number" on air, ostensibly so callers can get in touch with him in the daytime (for what reason, I don't know). That's an 070 number -- wonder how much he's making off it?

Had a call similar to this recently.

070 number...

Answered and there was a (blatantly) recorded message from a chap saying "hello, hello? I can't hear you"

Obviously didn't call back but *#147# revealed an 020, London number.

Called said number from work the next day and it was dead.

The scammers seem to have moved up a level and using CLID spoofing to boot.

You were spelling it incorrectly.

No, they've spelled it incorrectly.

Discreet means private or inconspicuous, discrete means distinct or separate.
