I have a w800i on Vodafone contract. Will I be able to use other network sims in it, or is it likely to be locked to Voda?

Although don't feel that you are stuck with Vodafone... you are able to get the phone unlocked for a small price at a lot of these independant mobile shops

You can, and there are ways to do it yourself for free, but this invloves a load of technical stuff, getting into the phones system and what not.

You can check if the phone is locked by going into the service menu -> service info -> sim lock.

Google for how to

Hi Tcall.

I work for Vodafone and may be able to help.

If you have recieved the handset from Vodafone directly, it will be locked to our network.

It can be unlocked at any time during the contract for a charge of £20, or, free of charge once you've had the phone for 12mths.

If you wand us to issue the unlocking code for your handset, if you go to www.vodafone.co.uk, then contact us, you will be able to send us an email. If you include FIT135 in the body of the text, it will be picked up by a team who monitor the public forums, and will be able to help.

How does that work with handset upgrades then? The last time both myself and my boyfriend upgraded our phones by calling Vodafone directly we both (almost a year apart) received unlocked and unbranded phones. The phones we had before the upgrades were both bought from a Vodafone retail store and were locked and branded.

Hi agentz,

I also work for Vodafone,

Handset branding/locking is dependant on which handset you have.

9/10 times, the handset is locked and branded.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any set rule as to why some are locked and some aren't.

Thanks for that. When I switched back to Vodafone I got a Sony Ericsson and my partner got a Nokia - both branded and locked to Vodafone. When we both upgraded at different times we both went for Samsung phones (albeit different models) and they were both unlocked and unbranded.

So I guess it's pot-luck then
