Must admit I still do. I feel a bit out of touch with new items such as DVD recorders.

Although, did you know that you can buy tapes from the Charity shop for 50p/20p or even 10p.

Once your done with them you can hand them back in to the Charity shop i.e. "Corronation Street - Weddings" but before you do that take the label off the tape by using a kettle and replacing it with something like "Nympho Nat takes it up the rat" and then the faces on the old folks at the home when they want a trip down memory lane - PRICELESS

Most (if fact, probably all) people I know still have VCRs. Why wouldn't we? Most of us still have big collections of VHS- and it's stupid to copy the old tapes to DVD then chuck them and the recorder in the bin, as we know how recordable DVDs can die on us suddenly- then you've lost them.

Personally, we don't even own a DVD recorder (then again, neither do most people I know). We record so little these days, there's no point. Any stuff I want putting on DVD, I do it through my computer. I do most of my recording to DV camcorder tapes, they're better quality & more reliable than DVDs.

I still have a VCR which is set up only for playback (no record connectivity). It is rarely used and I think there are no more than half a dozen VHS tapes left in the house. My entire film collection was replaced with DVDs 2 years back and the VHS tapes sent to a charity shop.

Still got my VCR...Its a sharp and is useful because it has the EP function where it turns a 3 hour tape into a 9 hour tape. VCR is just the quick and easy way to record whats on the TV.
I do have a DVD recorder as well, but just use it for playback, as a pack of Blank DVD's is so much more expensive than a pack of blank tapes. I do occassionally record on it, but not often
Plus I still have many pre-recorded VHS tapes, and until i have them on DVD or have recorded them onto DVD, their isnt much point getting rid of it

What? Blank DVDs cost twenty pence each. Where are you getting blank tapes from at 20p? Three hour blank tapes still cost a quid apiece.

Yeah I've haven't chucked my vcr out just yet. Also currently got a dvdr/vcr combo to copy stuff across on to dvd. Took me a while to get used to dvd but wouldnt go back to vhs now, so much easier to ff and rew with dvd.

PS - roberto_baggio huh? Terrible miss in the '94 final

We still have ours and we have a lot of pre-recorded tapes of films and series, so it won't be going any time soon.

We have a PVR, so the VCR is virtually never used to record now.

Yup, still got our video recorder - but rarely use it due to Sky+.

Still got a fully operational Betamax video recorder too -

Amazon, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Tesco, Currys, Comet, Safeway, Sainsburys, Wilkinsons, HMV....

I could go on.

Works out at about fifteen pence each if you search on the internet - you pay postage on top, but if you buy enough its still cheaper than buying videotape. I bought a pack of 100 for a tenner at a computer fair just before Christmas (so, 10p each) but I admit that you'd struggle to get them that cheap at high street shops.

i have access to 5 video recorders, brother has two, and most of my sibblings have at least 2, my teenager kids, both have video recorders in there dorms at collage, so i would say , there is still alot of people needing video, i even got a request the other day for audio cassettes (do you remember them?)

My brother even told me the other day he was going to start recording on video again, as he is sick of dvds not being recognised by differnet dvd recorders and sick of buying bad discs.

Still got my old Aiwa vcr, but it's not plugged in any more to save electricity. I seem to recall it cost about 300 quid in the late '90s, but it was a stereo model with SP/LP tape speeds. Mind you, the quality's crap in comparison to my Topfield PVR!

Stil got my video and it'll be a long time before i stop using it for recording certian things. Theres things that you can do with a VHS tape that a DVD or PVR have just never been able to take over.
And thats the rewind the last 5 minutes of the program that i missed when i went out tonight. Thats all i need to see. Or maybe back another ten minuters. I've never been able to do that sort of thing on the pvr or the dvd.
For everything else now i'll use the pvr but things where i just want to watch the odd bit at the end in case i can't figure something out at the start of the next episode i tend to put it on the video.
And also the video is the back up for when the freeview decides to play up on channel 5 so i revert back to analogue on the video.

I still have one and use it several times a week. I did buy a Tesco value DVD player last year when I had a coupon for £6 off a £30 spend, so that effectively brought the cost down from £18 to £12, but I really don't watch many pre-recorded DVDs as I'm not really a big movie fan. It's really just for the free DVDs in the newspapaers.

The VCR is dead easy to use for recording TV programmes and I have no plans to get rid of it.

I retired my VCR to the garage a few years back when I got a DVD-Recorder; tapes annoyed me, the re-winding, forwarding etc, and the cost of the tapes, and the short lifespan of tapes before the recordings become fuzzy (they were decent Panasonic and Sony VCRs too!).

Having said that; I wouldnt buy another DVD-Recorder, I bought a Humax 9200T Freeview PVR just before christmas and I use that ALOT, to the extent that I would have sold the DVD-Recorder, but there worth nothing second hand, and to get a DVD Player of the same quality would probably cost MORE than what I'd get for it - PVR is ALOT more convenient - just click on the program you want and its done!

Still got my Toshiba VCR that came as part of the tv package from Comet about 4 yrs ago. TV has been upgraded to HD tv and have Sky HD & DVD Player. The Tosh VCR isn't used much, but have loads of pre-recorded tapes that I've no desire to replace with DVD's at present, plus the little 'un has loads of kids tapes to play. If it goes tits up, I would get a VCR/DVD Recorder Combi - I won't be ditching the VCR for a few years yet !

A PVR or Sky+ would be a lot easier!

Hi Paddy; Why can you not do that on your PVR? Sounds like just the thing a PVR is great for.

I've got a video recorder built into my TV (combi).

We've got a video recorder downstairs - which has been gathering dust for the last 4/5 years.

I boxed up my old VCR about a year ago when I bought a DVD recorder.

Having said that, shortly after getting the DVD Recorder I stopped recording much with that.. it took so long spinning the disc up whenever you brought it out of standby, and insisted on preventing you watch anything else in the background while it formatted a disc or you did anything in the menus, that in the end I just couldn't be bothered to use it! I expected better from a Samsung!

Now I've got a V+ Box and just use the DVD recorder for archiving things I want to keep, which is the ideal setup for me.

Yes...but only to record programmes for my mother who only has Freeview.

And that is the only reason. I have a cable PVR and she has a Freeview PVR.

Judging by all the various comments on this thread, the VCR hasn't been replaced yet. I don't think it will be until somebody makes a twin tuner PVR which lets you achieve to DVD in one unit.
