Does anybody know if any mobile operators offer gprs on pay as you go sim cards.
presently on o2 online but would move if i could find a payg sim card that would enable me to connect my nokia 6210 to my laptop in emergencies.

6210 doesn't support gprs anyway.

plus i don't think that anyone offers gprs on payg.

nokia 6210 sure does support gprs.
got the phone of a mate who had it on orange contract.

i just checked with the nokia website. 6210 does not do gprs. 6310 does.

plus my one didn't.

what do i need on my simcard to enable it to connect via a data cable to make it able to dial up an internet connection on my laptop.
know it worked on orange contract sim card using same laptop.

GPRS is not a dial up system, it is always on and you are charged by the kb of data you transfer.

Orange supports high speed data, up to 28.8kbps, perhaps this is what you're thinking about? You have to dial up to an ISP (any ISP I think). But I think they only offer it on contract and only specific handsets support it.

you shouldn't need anything to do it.

i used to connect my laptop to the net via a 6210 on O2, and it didn't need anything special.

was this on o2 contract or o2 payg?

just when i try to connect using the nokia connection manager and data cable all i get is no phone connected.
have tried data cable and software on two different laptops and get same outcome.

windows 98 packard bell club 40 desktop

other tiny laptop windows xp

cant even download info from address book or calendar to mobile from either computer.

can recieve logo's from logo manager so data cable must be ok.
software is original 6210e software which came with phone.
any ideas.

i believe there are two types of cable. one that allows you to do data calls, and the other that lets you do things like ringtones. there are cables that do both too.

double checked when bought cable.

Not quite correct. HSCSD is available on pay-as-you-go (well, it is on my OVP Virgin - I don't know if that's different to PAYG), I use it on my OVP plan. As you say, you do need a phone that supports it and you also need to contact Orange to get it activated.

which will only get about 14 kpbps maximum (if ur lucky).

orange do gprs on payg, i only found this out after i lost my pocketpc/phone (trium mondo, pre xda)

gutted, damn thing cost a fortune dialing into isp (5p/min payg)

I'm trying to find a wireless modem for my Handspring Visor because it could come in useful, make typing emails easier than WAP when I'm on the move. Pain to find though, whenever I find them on eBay they're always network locked to any network other than T-Mobile/Virgin.

Same as. Means I can go on the net as much as I like on my 7650. And they haven't worked out how to charge people for their Games Arcade, so that's free as well.

They'll catch up with us eventually...

Your lucky, I tried the games arcade once and got charged 3 times for a game!
