I hate Phones4u

I made the biggest mistake of my life last summer when I got a Motorola V3x from phones4u. It was an 18 month Vodafone contract and I have 8 months to go.

After 29 days my phone started to switch itself off when I put the flip top down. So I took it to the shop and they told me that after 28 days they cannot cancel the contract and it would need to be sent for repairs, I was not happy but guessed it was all that can be done.

I got the phone back after 2 weeks, switched it on, only to find it had 3 software on it, not Vodafone as it should have been, I took it straight back and another 2 weeks later I got it back. All was ok for about 3 months and the phone switched itself off anytime I would flip it down. Went back to the store and said I wanted a new phone, they didnt agree, say they would send it for repair.

2 weeks pass, get the phone back. 2-3 months later, same fault, send it back, ask for a new phone, yip you guessed it, they will only send it for repair.

Guess what, another 2-3 months later same thing. 2 weeks ago my phone failed again, this time so bad that I could not even have a phone call without it switching it off. This is now the 4th time. I have been back to the shop adamant I do not want any more repairs done I want a new phone, they seem to agree and send it off.

Now I got a letter yesterday, asking to phone. So I phone (the letter actually said I needed to pay for repairs, I aint going to do that), turns out the letter that was sent out was the wrong one I am not needing to pay, fair enough - I was never going to anyway. I asked the woman on the phone what will happen. She said I would get refurbished Motorola V3x phone unless it is not in stock. I am not happy, I do not want the phone again, too many problems!!

Can anyone advise me the best thing to do? Is there any chance I can cancel the contract and get out early? Or at least get a new (not refurbished) phone?

Try Consumer Direct (Trading Standards) they are on the web and can offer advice about your rights.

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/

Or I would tell them I was going to the media with the problem, BBC Watchdog, a newspaper with a consumer page, if you don't have one the Scottish Sunday Mail and Sunday Post do and have been known to follow up cases in other parts of the UK, just pretend you are a regular reader. But be prepared to follow up by contacting the media.

I don't like them either, twice they have stuck extras onto my phones I did not ask for. On the plus side you can haggle a deal from them as I think they have targets to meet. I was in the store and the phone I liked was £150 to buy. I told them I would wait until if was free. The manager knocked it down to £50, I told them I wasn't in a hurry and would wait, got the phone for nothing, although they added a text add-on to my contract without telling me. The second time I said I would only close the deal if I got a free bluetooth headset, manager gave me a Nokia one to match the phone.

A friend got a good deal on his contract line rental by telling them where to stick what they were offering, they can be haggled down, but at what cost?

i've worked with o2 for that past 3 yrs almost on customer services and also upgrades, many times i have i heard phones 4 u giving mis-info in respect of contract terms and bundles etc.
i was even caught by their selling powers once but became wise to them.
they are very sneaky and have no customer care skills, all they are interested in is making a sale and getting their comission no matter how many lies they tell.
granted the problem you have with your phone is something that they cannot help you with apart from do what they did and send it for repair.
i know there are consumer laws but at the end of the day they provide you with an airtime contract only which is for your sim card to connect you to the network, the phone is thrown in as a bonus.
i sympathise with you and the thousands of customers i have spoke to regarding similar issues but networks have policies and procedures to go through.

regarding P4U, ask yourself, why do o2 no longer allow P4U to set up new connections through their stores?
it has been a long time coming. Other networks should follow suit and put them out of business

i feel better now i have had a rant.

The handset is not fit for purpose and is the retailer's responsibility to repair or replace. You could claim that the repairs will cause you inconvenience and demand it is replaced under the Sale of Goods Act.

As for the phone, it should have been replaced when the fault first showed, IMHO.
