and still the idiots who religiously follow this programme tell us what big stars these contestants will be.

Butlins is the appropriate place for them imho.

I can see why Chico is happy to appear at Butlins. He's an entertainer and will work wherever, and whenever he can. Consequently he's earning a very healthy living from doing this kind of gig on a regular basis. He appeared at various Butlins around the country last year and is doing the same this year as well.

It's good business for Butlins as well I presume, as they wouldn't continually book him if he wasn't pulling in the punters.

As for Journey South, well to me it seems less likely a venue of choice. Given that they are supposed to be releasing a new album a some time or other, I can't see that it is really the kind of venue they would choose to appear at. Still, they have to earn a living I suppose and maybe they aren't that much in demand elsewhere, but it doesn't do their music cred much good.

Are you saying that applys to McFly and Westlife both acts have played Butlins in the past and I wouldn't say either of them have a problem selling out shows.

Hmmm and didn't the wonderful and talented (we're not worthy) Will Young strut the stage at Butlins a while back - seems it was good enough for him to appear on that hallowed stage, so why not Journey South.

I'm not a Will fan as it goes - whatever made you think I was?

The difference between the artists you mentioned and Journey South is vast. You are talking about mainstream pop artists who have enough clout to appear anywhere and not be sniggered at. JS aren't mainstream. JS are very much middle of the road. The danger for them is they will be pidgeon holed into bookings that won't raise their profile.

I took a look at the Official JS Site which has an active forum but no updated information on their 2007 appearances and also the Unofficial JS Site which does give said appearances for this year. They seem to have 2 or 3 dates they were due to appear at cancelled. This sounds like a lack of public support when it came to ticket sales. Their other bookings are for other venues that are quite mixed, but somehow Gala Bingo, Cheltenham doesn't sound very rock n' roll to me!

They're playing at a venue fairly frequently used by acts touring in that region. They're not now redcoats...

They were fab at Butlins! And played to about 3000 - 4000 people there. There was so much demand they had to open 2 venues and play 2 sets.

The cancelled gigs were due to problems with the local council I believe and not lack of ticket sales.
