Homechoice/Tiscali Box Doing Strange Things
This is my first post here so hello and I was wondering if anyone could help me as I'm sure I'll get the usual switch the box off for ten seconds etc from Customer Service.
I have been a happy Homechoice customer for about the past 6 months but have only recently had a few problems since the switch over to Tiscali TV. Firstly when I switched the box on it would crash with green lines across it and this would happen about 4 or 5 times before Tiscali TV would work. Now that problem has magically gone, mainly because I don't switch the box off but now the picture quality, although not great to start with, has now got worse. Whilst watching Tiscali TV the picture seems to have a greeny yellow tinge to it and flickers between "normal" picture quality and this strange greeny yellow tinge. Its not the TV as Ive checked the DVD player through it. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I know they've kindly cut my bill to £14.99 a month but I'd rather pay that little bit more for what the service was like pre Tiscali TV. Thanks in advance. |

You haven't recently moved your setup have you? Sounds like you might be seeing the digital protection signal in the video stream. I get this on HC if I use the wrong SCART to output from on the box and watch On-demand stuff. Maybe switch your SCART lead over to the other socket and see if that helps?

Sounds like a faulty/loose scart cable.

No I haven't changed anything. Will give it a go though. Its been happening when I'm watching terrestrial TV as well as on Demand stuff but only started happening when I watched a bit of that Free OD channel, number 9 I believe.
Should the output be RGB or something? As that's what it's set at. Im running it into a 42" Panasonic plasma. Have also checked for loose scart fittings and all seems well. Thanks for your help. Last edited by Daveclark5 : 28-03-2007 at 13:15. |

Hello!
I had a similar sounding problem a while ago. I was getting diagonal green stripes across the screen when I tried to view any VOD/reply content. This problem would cause the Homechoice box to crash. I had to call Homechoice. They tried all sorts of technical sounding things but after 35 minutes of technical assistance, the phone operator decided a new box would be in order. Give them a call is my advice. Emma

That's exactly what was happening to my box (ooer!) Emma but that hasn't happened for a while now.
It's this yellow/green thing that happening at the moment which is just plain weird! Thanks again at least I know I'm not alone! Thought I was one of the only people to use/hear of Homechoice before coming on here. |

Had an engineer around today who said a new box will be rolled out in the next month which will apparently be more reliable and have more features.
Fingers crossed! |

I had this problem - had to have my box renewed.
It was down to a dodgy TV card in the box, which the engineer told me often goes due to overheating. He pointed out that there are no air vents in the box!!! |

yep - the green lines are fairly common, it's a sign your box is on the way out. eventually it'll just stay on a black screen and die (internet will still work tho!).
happened to me twice in 3 years - the only fault with the service so far, bar a couple of recent outages. |

So by the sound of it these boxes are not particuarly reliable. Nice to look at but still un-reliable.
Memories of my ex-girlfriend come flooding back!! |
