When we were with Telewest they increased phone call costs by rounding off calls up to nearest penny - thereby forcing a price increase of virtually every call.

Now Virgin have come along and they are rounding up the phone call itself to the nearest minute and then applying the minute rate - so if you make a call in daytime for 4 minutes 1 second, you will pay for 5 minutes at 3p per minute.

Why?

Can't their computers deal with numbers with decimal prices.

I'm sure Richard B's taxes on all his investments don't get rounded up.

Yes, they've certainly taken advantage of Branson letting them use his trading name!

They must be the most expensive telephone provider in the UK now - 6p connection charge, per minute billing, £15 per quarter penalty charge if you don't pay by direct debit!

Not fogetting their £1 a month for itemised billing,£1.75p a month for caller display,and 3p a minute evening call rate.

On reading this, I queried this with Virgin Media, who have told me that there is no charge for having an itemised bill on-line, and for viewing the itemised bill on line. The charge is if you have an itemised 'paper' bill.

But they didn't dispute the fact that they charge £15 per quarter if you don't pay by DD, £5.25 for Caller Display, double what BT charge for connection ............

I don't dispute that. However, anyone signing up with Virgin media knows these costs at the outset.

The poor sods with BT are having the £4.50 per month extra foisted on them no matter whether they have been with them for six months, six years, or like me since 1964.

That's why many of us are so pi**sed off with BT that we no longer use them for anything except line rental.

Speaking personally, I hope I get to the situation with BT where they are losing money providing me with the line only, and they'll be able to watch lots of other companies making money from me.

It's 50p extra per month actually (for those not paying by DD).

At the moment, someone on monthly billing pays £1 more per month than someone who pays by DD (£12 instead of £11).

The new charges mean they'll pay £1.50 per month (i.e. an extra 50p) more than someone who pays by DD (£12.50 instead of £11).

At the moment, someone on quarterly billing pays £3 more per quarter than someone who pays by DD (£36 instead of £33).

The new charges mean they'll pay £4.50 per quarter (i.e. an extra £1.50) more than someone who pays by DD (£37.50 instead of £33).

Yes another £12 a year if you want a paper itemised bill,plus the 3p a minute for evening geographical calls,where as BT only charge 5.5p for up to 6O minutes.

15 minute chargeable evening 01/02 call with VM 45p.

Same call with BT 5.5p.

45p for a 15 minute evening or weekend call? I get free evening and weekend calls thrown in from Virgin Media with my £9.99 per month broadband deal. All paid for calls are via 18185, so my bill from Virgin Media is £9.99 per month. I haven't paid them one penny in call charges, and don't really intend to.

I'm after the best deal I can get, and think I have it with my setup.

So your a Virgin Media Non - Cable Customer then,paying your line rental to BT.

What a rip off.

I doubt blocking numbers is legal. They should be reported to Ofcom for this.

for another 9.99 a month you can get free calls 24/7 or phone them up and they will give you a deal, i phoned up yesterday and they reduced the current price from £14 a month down to just £3 a month for 24/7 free calls.

Their idea of a fair price is a joke.

Leaving aside the TV, for £11 a month you get INCLUSIVE Calls to 01/02 Geographical Numbers at weekends.To get Inclusive 01/02 Calls added for Peak and Evenings it will cost you £14 a month more at moment.(£9.99p from 1/5/2007) They dont give retention deals if your still in contract.Plus they still operate a 6p connection charge for ALL chargeable calls,with minute billing on all chargeable calls from 1/5/2007.
