It took two viewings of The Girl in the Fireplace for me to apprieciate it; three for Love and Monsters. I still don't like Fear Her and the Cyberman two parter.

The ones I liked straight away: Dalek; The Empty Child; The Doctor Dances; Tooth and Claw; School Reunion.

Aha! That's the man...cheers PJ

Now, since it is apparently traditional at this time of year to enter into the age old new DW v old DW debate, I'm afraid I'm going to have to sit firmly on the fence (avoiding that post and rusty nail as it looks like it could do some damage)

Sure, the old series had some cracking stories and some cracking people but then, so does the new series...the beauty of the programme is that, rather like Star Trek, it's simplicity of concept allows it to be reinvented, manipulated and continued in a way that other programmes can only dream of...soap opera, by it's nature, is a static medium...sure fashions change (cf Letitia Dean's hair) but still it relies on murder, unplanned pregnancy and SHOUTING alot for its drama...with DW, there is so much more available...

...now, returning to the plot...I watched "The Green Death" last night and, as a child it terrified me: as an adult? I appreciated the 30 year early environmental storyline and the irony of the title but as for the maggots...hmmm...still breaks me up when the Doctor knows he's losing Jo and can't do anything about it though...

I just rewatched New Earth for the first time since I originally saw it and was surprised how much I enjoyed it - OK the resolution is too simple but there loads of great stuff in there.

I would also like to mention The Idiots Lantern which I really like and think is very underrated.

That's funny, I just watched it tonight! I know what you mean - the mood changes so many times in that episode. Very clever of Russell. Those final scenes feel like it SHOULD have ended, but we keep just getting one last scene... and one more... and one more gag... and one brilliant speech to finally end it, that actually had me in tears! *sigh* i'm such a sook.

Also rewatched Aliens of London/World War Three and enjoyed it loads more. It totally set up series 2, especially the final scenes. First time round I was so irritated by the long chase scenes with the rubbish switching between CGI and bodysuit Slitheen!
