Info bar bottom of screen

Hi - small and possibly silly question for a technical and very useful forum - but - what's the symbol left of the TV/radio/text icon in the screen info bar - looks like roman numerals I/II? Nothing in the very thin manual that I can see.....Not every channel displays it, so could it be a sound (stereo) indicator? Very pleased with the unit - had it for a week and it works well so far.
Thanks

Wondered that myself.I have concluded it indicates the tuners, i.e 1 and/or 2. Only guessing & open to correction

I haven't even noticed it, so much for my observational powers! Will have a look later.

I think that it indicates the the program has Nicam Stereo. I used to have a Sony TV that had the exact same symbols when a Nicam signal was broadcast.
I may be proved wrong though

Hi - thanks for replies - I guess it's not that important but I just wondered......NiTeFIY's stereo theory seems to be the best bet.
Cheers

I remember reading a thread many many months ago with someone asking about this symbol appearing on the Digilogic (Tesco) freeview box.

The only info I can remember was it definitely being something about audio; it may well have indicated that there were two audio streams available (English and English Audio Descriptive), or be related to Stereo sound.

Hope that helps!

I think audio description is in addition to the normal audio.

If the symbol isn't shown it's mono sound, as on QVC or The Hits.

If the symbol is present, you have a pair of audio channels's so you get either stereo, or 2 selectable language tracks, say Welsh or English, played as mono. (I don't know if this is actually used in practice). I suppose I and II refer to the 2 languages available for selection.

Don't think that's quite right - The Hits broadcasts in stereo. AFAIK, the I/II symbol indicates that there are two (or more than one) audio tracks available on the channel. If you goto the language settings, you'll find that channels with no symbol show English as the current audio, whereas channels with the I/II symbol allow you to change the current audio between "English" and "English (Visually impaired)", not that the second audio track seems to work, or maybe it's just on certain programmes (even though the symbol shows all the time).

The symbol certainly doesn't indicate stereo sound, since it's shown for old programmes (e.g. on ITV3) that are obviously mono (sounds crap on surround sound ). And referring to another posting, and to be pendantic, "Nicam" only exists on analog broadcasts - it's not used on DTT.

Hmm, doesn't on my Daewoo. I'll have to look into that. (I know we're in Digihome here, but the machines are almost identical in nature).

I think the language settings are incidental. I doubt the powers that be think it worth having audio description on a channel that only provides mono. I've never gotten to grips with audio description; I can select it on my Sagem occasionally where it is available, but it replaces the normal audio instead of complementing it. But as far as I recall it accompanied a stereo broadcast. I think the one I have in mind was Lord of the Rings, or something similar.

No, not necessarily stereo sound, but still a stereo channel, even if the content is mono. Just because one programme is mono, it doesn't mean the others are. It may even be just the adverts that are stereo.

I'm at work so this is just from memory (and I may be way off the mark) but I thought it related to the two favourites lists and changes if you switch from the full channel listing to either of the favourites lists.

at a guess , as it is only on sertain channels, i would say dolby digital sound and subtitles.

the one being subtitles
the two being dolby digital

there is also a key, which means channel is locked, or scrabbled, (in other words tutv, or subscription channels).

Don't you have 5 fav. lists on the Digihome? The Daewoo shows the one selected as a heart symbol with the list number inscribed. With none selected there's no symbol.

Sure - fav. lists on the Digihome are denoted similarly, but using a block shape instead of a heart.
