Average sort of episode tonight. I enjoyed Janice turning up at the hotel with her "Miss Whiplash" jibe & her "Two for the price of one on Wednesday's comments" lol! Didn't think that Leanne would go down the fishnet stockings route when she was "working" though.
Underworld stuff was nothing special & didn't really add anything to the episode in terms of humour or characterisation. Pointless filler really.
Morton stuff was nothing special either. This family has to "bed in" & the audience have to be given time to get to know them & care about them before they start doing stories about one of the kids going back to her mother. They haven't been in the show long enough yet for anyone to care one way or the other whether Kayleigh goes or stays.
Then, of course, we had the trial. Wasn't too keen on Claire's "sudoku" scenes outside the court as I felt that they were a little out of character. Presumably they may have been added in an attempt to show that Claire was nervous or that the pressure of a court appearance was getting to her. We've never, after all, seen her curled up on the sofa at home, poised over her puzzles.
The stuff with her in the witness box was better. Liked the way that she started off trying to lecture the jury about battered women (presumably to tie in with the fact that she's now working on the helpline) before she got restricted to answering the questions. It was obvious that the prosecution would ask her whether she'd actually seen anything though.
What let the whole trial thing down was more hamminess on the part of La Ford. Dried eyed crying, more gurning & face pulling than you could shake a stick at. Any jury with half a brain cell would have seen it was a third rate performance & known she was guilty there and then.
Not surprised that she went for the "Charlie was a good man, I wasn't a good enough girlfriend" line as that's what she used with the police & her defence team when she was telling them the same story.
Ken & Deirdre were good again. Liked Ken's rolling his eyes to Heaven as Toxic swore to tell the truth.
6 and a half out of 10.
