I have an opportunity to aquire one of these machines. I have never had one(or even thought of getting one).
Are they any good, which is best, what is the difference?

I will be playing it through a SONY IDTV 32DX30 (but thats another story.

Hi!

I've got the Sony 535 and I really can't fault it.

I previously owned and Aiwa player, it had problems playing my Toy Story discs though, so I exchanged it for the Sony and never looked back.

The amount of menus' available for setup is amazing, I really can't fault the picture or sound output. There are all the connections you'll need, including 2 scart leads, Opical out, Standard phono and Digital 5.1 out.

I don't know what the differences between the 335 and 535 are though I'm afraid. Loooking at them, the 335 is a bit more slimline.

Another thing to consider is that a Sony Player can't be hacked with the remote control to make it multi-region, it'll need to be chipped if you want to watch films from other regions (i.e. region 1)

I'd go for the Sony though, either model will give you no problems

I have just got the 336,the only difference is that the 535 has an inbuilt Dolby Digital 5.1 output decoder (with 5.1 output sockets) whereas the 335/336 has only digital outputs and analogue outputs.

An inbuilt Digital decoder like in the 535 allows you to connect to an amplifier that has 5 inputs (5 dedictated for DVD) to get excellent quality Dobly Digital sound. The 335 only has a port that allows you still get Dolby Digital sound but you need a more expensive amplifier with an inbuilt Dolby Digtial decoder.
