The Anti-Max thread
Anyone else really dislike Max ? I hate the way he is so one dimensional, he rarely smiles, talks at the same pitch all the time, and just doesn't seem to have any charisma or anything. I am not saying it is the actors fault, but the character is just so dull and samey. Hmm, lets see, a day in the life of Max....
Max : "alright Tan sweetheart, I'm off to work" Tanya : "Can you pick up the kids tonight" Max : "sorry, can't, got an important business meeting on, can't you do it" (in other words off to bonk Stacey again). Cue around 15 minutes of Max and Stacey texting or phoning each other to change plans. Then later on he will pass Stacey on the stall, make small talk, flirt, then they will meet up, and he will either be late to meet the kids because he is doinking Stacey or someone will nearly spot them together but doesn't. There we go, another episode of EE written for Max. Last edited by BlizzardUK : 29-03-2007 at 00:36. |

Don't think you can blame the character. I put it down to lazy writing

I thought he had potential when he first came into it but they've since transformed him into the new Den and now I can't stand to watch him. I also wish he'd stop dragging his feet!

I think Jake Wood is playing him brilliantly- that's what Max is- a smarmy lying g*t! I detest Max's behaviour- his treatment of his wife and kids disgusts me but I think he's a classic example of men who are like him in the real world.

I thought he was going to be the father that Bradley had always dreamed of, a man who saw the error of his ways, and turned his life around. But no they have turned him into a sleazy old man. His relationship with Stacey gives me the creeps. I wonder how he would react if one of his daughters started having an affair with a very much older , balding, married man? |

And yeah if Abi or Lauren started seeing someone unsuitable it would very much be a case of pot and kettle! |

I am pretty sure there is a max in every town, village in the UK. Jake Wood is playing him well.

i agree about Jake Wood mags31, he's a great actor, but sometimes i get the impression that the writers are trying to make max become a tough, mitchell-sterio type. Note the fact he's always saying to stacey "your playing with the big boys now etc" and the way he is around Sean, trying to be intimidating and macho, when to me its clear Sean wouldn't IMO have any problems in taking him down.

I think its best keeping him as a slimey womanising weasel of a character and not making him a butch bad boy. He looks like he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag anyway, and there are enough tough guys in the Square already.

Can't stand the character but there again, we aren't supposed to! I really dislike the storyline and have done since the very beginning i can't wait till it all comes out in the open and ends.
As for the actor, well i think Jake Wood plays him really well which is why i dislike max so much |

I was quite shocked to find out the actor is only in his mid 30s or something, he looks 40-odd. Was he the same guy who was called Street in Street Wise back in the 80s (a "dispatch biking" kids show) ?

I think I remember him being in Red Dwarf and there was a funny scene where he shouts really intensly "lets do it" and then just calmly quietly walks off, well, it was funny at the time
It could of been a different actor but I think it was him, although I haven't seen that episode in 10 years. I think he also appeared in Only Fools in a cameo.
