She could at least try and make it sound like she wasn't just reading them off a script.

She was advised to deliver the lines in a certain way.

I suppose she could have tried to inject a bit of personality into her manner, rather than just flatly saying the words like she does. (Mind you, if you haven't got any personality, you can't manufacture it - you either got it or you ain't!!) Perhaps they wanted someone a bit mousy and 'part of the furniture' so it wouldn't detract from the apprentices themselves.

Yeah, could be that or it could be that she was advised to deliver the lines in a certain way as I said earlier.

I can read. How do you know that anyway? (It strikes me that she wasn't capable of doing it any better anyway, but you seem to have access to a higher source than the rest of us!)

Margaret is a non-exec director: link

Seems like Nick may indeed not be an Amstrad employee.

There's a lot about the Apprentice that is fake - some of it has to be. There must be hours of boring footage to summarise down into the 40 minutes or so that gets shown for each task.

As for the locations, they are (for whatever reason) trying to create a feeling of glamour without spending a fortune. Seems a bit unnecessary, but it is great telly!

EXACTLY! this is a telly programme.
I dont think anyone has said that the two side kicks work for SAS they are his advisors. the shots of canary wharf are to represent the city and modern business
The actress might not even be an actress but a friend of the production manager or producers who is much cheper to hire

The scenes in the boardroom are repeated with SAS saying his lines again so that different camera angles can get their points of view of SAS. You never see a camera behind the applicants filming him so these bits are repeated for the tell.
The footage of them hearing the results and crits are most probably from the first time he says it though so that you get real reactions. Imagine some of that lot trying to act!

The most fake thing about the show is which people get fired along the way. Some would never make it but have good tv personalities that you either love or hate so they are kept.

WRONG-There is a two-way mirror and camera run behind the candidates (the ones who sit to the right when you walk in the boardroom door).

Yeah, I know pretty much all there is to know about it, if you get my drift.

Nah, too many people work too hard for too long on this programme for someone to ruin the whole thing by showing off on a forum. I might occasionally correct a few glaring errors but on the whole I think it's better spoiler-free.

Go on, tell us a few behind the scenes secres. We dont want to know who gets the boot next as that would spoil it but just a few technical things for us saddoes who like to know!

Much of the London exterior shots are stock footage (or at least stock footage for the show - the same cutaway shots have been used for the past two series') and yeah, the offices at Brentwood are pretty crappy and the business park/industrial estate where Amstrad is located is pretty dire. But that's Brentwood for you (my Dad has to attend meetings over there for another well-known company and says it sucks there).

But as it's been said, Sir Alan doesn't have to spend loads on luxury just because he has the money. If anything I think it's admirable that he doesn't spend his money on stuff like that - as long as he's not contravening health and safety rules and his workers aren't suffering!

To add that there's quite a difference between the money that Sir Alan has personally and the finances of his company. Amstrad does *okay* as a business, but I'd imagine not well enough to move to somewhere like Canary Wharf just for the sake of it.

Well, it was worth a try, lol! (I'd love to know who you are though! ) I must say that Margaret comes over as a very nice genuine woman, would you agree with that, knowing what you do?

Just another random observation on the real locations and the atmospheric City air shots; when sralan met the candidates in The City in the (I think) 1st episode of this series there was an aerial shot of him in his helicopter flying along the Thames over Tower Bridge, but he was going upstream / west, and away from the City
mrbike

The helicopter footage was entirely reshot for this series. That said, I'm sure the directors/editors used some of the older stuff too.

mrbike, how does one go about getting tickets to be on the "You're Fired" shows? (Months in advance, I suppose!) Or is it invitees only?

I have to say that by the sounds of it (mrbike) 'Frances' didn't really get the chance to add personality to her odd line! It sounds to me the production company perhaps wanted her to be stoney faced and cold...maybe to make the Apprentices feel ill at ease whilst waiting in the reception???

Anyway, I think she is hot and I enjoy watching out for her each week...close up...not close up...oh and those lips......

ive got an emailer

i bought it in tesco
its the e3 videophone and it looks great
problem is, you can use it as an ordinary phone unless you register it and pay 20p per day.
i didnt take it back as it would have cost me £5 in petrol

when i watch the apprentice, i smile at it and imagine being in big A s chair

It's filmed the day before the episode airs.

THE ANSWER!!!

Where the boardroom is-LINK!!!

Where "You're Fired" is filmed-LINK!!!

I always had my suspicions about the 'boardroom' being a set - too well lit and much too much equipment to accommodate. They presumably shoot live to tape with several cameras and all it's put together 'off line' in an edit suite.

Note that it is shot on video and processed to look like film - they are not stopping and reshooting from different angles with one camera as has been suggested above.

What I want to know is when each episode is shot - how far advanced of transmission are they. The early shows must have been last Autumn judging by the light at the set off point and leaves on the trees etc..........

It makes me laugh that they all wear the big black coats buttoned up when leaving after being fired

Obviously to cover up whatever they are wearing at the time so people dont suss that it was filmed much earlier
