This is the one Steven Moffat won last year, and he's up again!

Why the Hell have they chosen Downloaded for BSG when the Pegasus/Resurection Ship story arc was the most gripping of series 2. Actually the First three - Scattered, Valley of Darkness and Fragged wasn't too shabby either. As for Series 3 - the first two episodes were balls to the wall brilliant but Downloaded was an ok, quirky episode but nothing to match Pegasus.

Quite dissapointed in that.

For the record - I hope Girl in the Fireplace wins - that was exquisite.

If the Hugo Award was worth anything, it wouldn't have 3 DW episodes to 1 Galactica episode.

I know, it would have 4 Who episodes.

Why is that ?

I can only assume that whoever decides what shows go forward for nominations, I also assume these are sci-fi fans who know a thing or two about the genre and the many ways it can be done, light, dark, serious, fun, can appreciate the many styles of writing that the sci-fi genre can do, unlike a lot of sci-fi fans who see the genre as some form of childish schoolyard mine is better than yours rubbish.

Im not a fan of BSG but wouldnt for a second think that it shouldnt be up for nomination, it's an extremely well made sci-fi show, sci-fi is a wide genre and not just one show or one style of format.

IMHO they could have easily added The Imossible planet/The Satan pit to that list as well.

Why are your fingers only crossed for Girl in the Fireplace? Would you be unhappy if School Reunion or Army of Ghosts/Doomsday won? Please don't take umbrage - I'm interested to know.

Personally, I'd pick Army of Ghosts/Doomsday as the best Dr Who on that list - for its brilliant resolution of a two year long story arc.

would be happy for School Reunion to win too as good story but I guess I enjoyed GitF more. AoG and Doomsday just didn't work for me I'm afraid.

Yeah, but surely it would be good for the show if it won for those eps? I thought School Reunion was a pretty poor story plotwise, but I'd still be pleased if it won because it's positive news for the show. Surely you don't begrudge RTD a bit of awards success?

I am really confidant that Steven Moffat will win again this year with 'The Girl in the Fireplace'.

It's worth noting that the Hugos are decided by the literary SF community and their choices tend to reflect that. Downloaded, for example, would have appealed to them more than Resurrection Ship because it spends longer actually dealing with the SF ideas of things like "if you knew all your memories were fake, how long would you cling to them anyway?"

Agreed BG, it was extremely well directed, the scenes where the possessed guy is standing outside and also the 'quarry' scenes were executed to a very high 'filmic' standard. I enjoy seeing on repeated viewings just well done the whole 2 parter was put together.

To be a bit 'anal' for a second there is probably one of the best 'swipe' edits I've ever seen, where (I forget his name at the moment) the guy is looking through the round port window and it swipe edits to Toby looking through his magnifying glass. Subtle, but little things like that that go unoticed are little highlights for me, keep an eye out for it.

Of the episodes chosen I would like GIFP to win but would be happy if any episode won, but I am puzzled as why The Imp planet/satan pit wasn't nominated. Strange world.

It's an extremely small number of fan nominations, and fewer than 200 actually pick the worthy entries for nomination (179 voters), and the winner, from what I can gather. Anyone clarify? Must be plenty of DW fans in there! Though you have to remember that the voices of 200 people mean nothing to RTD.

Shame "Impossible Planet" isn't there - it was certainly nominated, but wasn't picked for entry - would seem it wasn't literary enough - but "Girl In The Fireplace" has a good chance.

The acting and scripts of BSG are far far superior to that of Doctor Who. The only thing is that BSG is less sci-fi than DW.

BSG is nowhere near the superiority of Doctor Who.

Wow. Just..........wow.

Doctor Who is a made for kids light entertainment show for the 7pm slot.

BSG is a mature human drama with superb scripts and acting.

You won't see any farting aliens on BSG, nor will you see fat comedy aliens portrayed by Peter Kay.

BSG and Doctor Who are made for totally different audiences. Someone asked why it was that The Pegusus wasn't up. It was last year and came fourth.

Downloaded was one of the few watchable episodes in later season 2 BSG. Btw I'd prefer farting aliens to Black Market, as that was truely dreadful.

I think that GitF should win. It's a beautifully done high concept story with an emotional edge.

Well - I love Doctor Who (and all the episodes nominated - only a nomination of Fear Her would have made me choke, though New Earth would have a bit of a shock too), I love BSG (surprised by the choice of episode - good but not the best) and I'm pretty fond of SG-1 (with 200 being very good viewing).

I can't grasp the need of some to compare very different shows (and each of the three has very different aims and styles) and rubbish one for not being like the other.

The Hugo people have very good taste - and as long as they vote TGitF or AoG/D as the winner - I'll continue to think so...!

They are two completely different styles of show within the sci-fi genre. Should BSG have more nominations because it is a 'mature drama'? is that what sci-fi should only be about? should the Hugo awards be based on 'mature drama' sci-fi only? Or is it just that a show you don't like received more nominations?

Maybe the episodes of Dr Who have been nominated because they were good and showed a wide variety from episode to episode in writing and direction, much more variety than you maybe get at times with 'mature drama sci-fi,' maybe that's why only one episode of BSG was put forward, I dont know, and dont forget this episode of BSG could still win.

No but you will see them on Dr Who, great isn't it when a show doesn't take itself to seriously all the time and sticks a fun 2 fingers up to the 'do's and don'ts' of sci-fi internet forum law.

That's what I love about Doctor Who that you can have the high concept with the day today.

BSG is so far above Doctor Who in nearly every way that it's a joke.

And yet Girl In the Fireplace is one of the best single episodes of sci fi I've seen in a long time equalled with a couple of BSG - so good luck to them both. Dr Who is still just a kids show though; overall, BSG is in a totally different league.
