Why no freeview tuners in small TVs?

I am looking to buy a small LCD TV for my kitchen but I'm wary to splash out now as the TV would basically be useless in a couple of years without an external box. Are there any reasonably priced small TVs with Freeview tuners?

Alternatively can anyone recommend a good small LCD TV without one?

THis Wharfedale at argos was discussed here a while ago.

Have you tried the likes of Froogle and Kelkoo?

If you have an Aldi near you there's Tevion 19" LCD DVD combi with freeview for £249.99 coming in on sunday.

or this under cupboard one for £99 from next Thursday at Lidl:

I think that it might no be compatible with UK MHEG text, only with the European standard, but otherwise it seems excellent value.

Can't definitively deduce from the specs if it's widescreen or not, does anyone know?

Not a bad deal as the builtin DVD player plays DivX. Just what we've been looking for in the kitchen but ideally will be widescreen...

The only clue I can find is the resolution of 1440 x 900 which is neither 16:9 or 4:3.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's a little less that 15:9 which a lot of these small TVs are.

Doesn't have a great viewing angle though. Be best if you could see one working before you decide.

Thanks for the advice, emptybox. As it's in Aldi, they won't have one on and working so I'll look to see if I can get something similar elsewhere for similar money before I buy it.

PC World had a 26" LCD with freeview and DVD player for £300 but it was sold out when I ordered it.

Does anyone know of any other good deals? Smallest 19", biggest 26", freeview is a must and DVD is a bonus. Any help gratefully received

Its Widescreen with aspect ratio of 16:10 and viewing angle of 150(h) 135(v) which is normal for 19" Widescreen sets
Connectivivity seems good too!

The thing about this one is it combines Freeview & a DVD player.
Even if I dont get Freeview now, I will eventually get it when the great digital switch off happens- even in my backwater

Seems v good value for the money?

Also, I suppose 16:10 is a good compromise aspect ratio when some material is in 4:3 and some in 16:9.

Seems a good deal, will probably get one tomorrow

Thanks to everyone for their help and guidance.

Got to Aldi at 1230 and they'd already sold out! Wish I'd not had that lie in now! Gutted!

I got to my local at 10.04 and got the last but one.

One customer bought 3 and another 2.

Not a bad box but picture best to be user adjusted as rather "red" in normal mode.

DVD is multi-region too.

Sound does not seem to be adjustable despite the controls saying it can be.

1440 x 900 is the standard ratio on a 19" widescreen LCD monitor, so I would guess it is widescreen.
