If Babylon 5 was made by EE's writers...
They would have ditched the show's arc and made it all up as they went along, then had the characters go round and round in circles in stupid storylines.
You would not see Londo and G'kar evolve, they'd just do the same thing over and over again. We would have seen a big space battle end, then suddenly start all over again and happen in almost exactly the same way a few episodes later. Characters would suddenly dissappear with no explanation. There would be a major incident and everyone would forget about it the next day. The ending of a season would be planned at the last minute. I like EE but the short-termism and obviously non-existent planning of storylines is making me angry. I watch shows like Heroes, Prison Break, House, and Lost (no Brit TV show will ever match the likes of B5 and Heroes) and see all too clearly what is wrong with British TV drama; a contempt for the basic tenets of storytelling.

I agree that EE does only look out into the short term.... there are countless examples of that... but I beg to differ on your general thrust. B5 had many, many filler episodes that were just dreadful, and whilst the script planning was exemptional, the actual script writing left a lot to be desired and bordered on cringe-worthy half the time. Give EE its due, it may not be at its best at the moment, but I'd rather it stay crap than devolve into the lower-form of being that is the average sentimentaly-driven and laden US script.
