Sharp 46" LCD or Pion 42" Plasma
Dear all,
I am after a bit of advice please, I have been doing some research and had my heart set on a Plasma as I wanted a 50" but then I went to the shops and had a look at them and thought they looked a bit to big and I noticed the Sharp LC46XD1E which I thought looked stunning. So did a bit more research and I am down to either the Sharp LC46XD1E or the Pioneer PDP-4270XD. Can anyone give me advice please, I am swinging towards the Sharp but the Pioneer also looks really good. Any advice either way would be great or even a different suggestion if I have missed something obvious. My Budget is £1500. Many thanks Lee |

Certainly the Sharp is a stunning picture, even on SD, but they currently have a high pitched whistling problem when warm, which needs the PSU replacing to cure. They have been a small number of replacement PSU's, but currently there are none available, and the service agents (no doubt pissed off) are telling dealers to return the sets to Sharp for credit.

I have the Pioneer PDP-427XD and I love it. I paid £1277 for it delivered from Sound and Vision. It is now £1255. Don't bother with the PDP-4270XD, at this price the PDP-427XD is better value.
The PDP-427XD has 2 HDMI instead of 1 on PDP-4270XD. It also has PIP etc and can be ISF calibrated (if you want!). The PDP-427XD does not have a stand though, where as the PDP-4270XD has a pedastal stand. Not a problem for me as I wall mounted mine, but you would have to allow a little extra for a stand of some sort if you did not want it on the wall. The latest Panasonic plasma range looks very good value too. Play.com have the 42" TH-42PX70PED for £949, and that includes the pedastal stand! |

If it was me i would buy the plasma screen. LCD just dont cut it for me. The blacks are not black and they can suffer from shearing, and not so good watching football for example. But to really answer your question only you can really decide which one to go for. get a demo of both and then make a choice. I had the same issue when i was choosing my plasma screen. Pio or Panny. In the end i went for a Panasonic commerical panel. fantastic performance and great value for money. Everyone is differnet. Dal Quote:
