Sky Box Office

Why wouldn't Tiscali / Homechoice offer us access to Sky Box Office programming ?

Can't think of any logical reason.

Because the have their own on demand service. Most of the items on Movies Now's latest releases are also on Sky Box Office.

Why continually broadcast 50 streams across their backbone network when they can perform the delivery on demand?

Why duplicate content? Why pay Sky anything for a service they can provide themselves.

If it where to go ahead any Sky Box Office deal is going to be a branding exercise with Tiscali providing the network and on deamnd infrastructure and Sky providing the rights, material and branding.

Unless he's referring to the PPV Boxing and wrestling - in which case we'd need to see Sky One etc before then.

Remember, Sky by Wire is technically supposed to be dealing directly with Sky (even though HC/TTV do the deduction for us). If I've read things correctly this is the sort of thing Sky were claiming to want to do with Virgin asa solution to the contracts impasse but if they won't give Sky One to us why would they give Sky One to Virgin under such a system??

Because Virgin have a considerably larger viewer base than HC/Tiscali which is important to them from an advertising perspective. I'm sure they are quite happy to wait for Tiscali to either die or wait until they manage to get a worthwhile viewer base at which point they would probably be more than happy to offer a similar deal.
