Has anyone got the Minato G1 DVD Player, available at http://www.tesco.com at £129.99? I was wondering what it was like- e.g. RGB output, multi region hack?

No idea about the quality, and let's face it, it's damned cheap so it can't be great, but it is multiregion hackable according to http://www.dvdreviewer.co.uk

They have this hack for this model:

1. Press the Open/Close button on your remote control to open the drive tray
2. Press the buttons 0, 1, 1 and then 1 on your remote control, in order, one at at time
3. A set of stars should appear in the top left hand corner of the onscreen display
4. Press the button 1 on your remote control to select Region 1, or 2 to select Region 2, and so on.
5. The word Region and then the number you selected should briefly appear on screen to confirm that the hack has been successful, however this may not be the case on some models

Like I observed before it looks identical to the Grundig that was reviewed in What Video (or something) like it last year. They gave it top marks for picture quality.

The hack described (0111 <region>) works well with regions 1, 2 and 6 (I don't have any others to try).

The picture quality is OK, sound is OK - this really is entry level, and as such you will see a big improvement over your VHS (and even Betamax ! ) videos.

I am using it as a second unit for the bedroom.

Some things it wont do...

Zoom does not work on PAL DVD's.
It does not play VCD's.
And there is a strange bold capital letter warning about trying to play photo CD's in the manual.
