Multiple component inputs

I have an EDTV (somwhere in between standard definition and High definition). It has a single set of component inputs that double up as RGBHV inputs. These are RCA, there is no HDMI, no DVI and no scarts.

I currently have a Panasonic DMR-E85 connected via component (with the result being stunning DVD video quality), I may get an Xbox 360 to replace my current Xbox (so this will also need component input) and I am replacing my cable set top box for a V+ HD box that also uses component (seeing as my tv has no HDMI input).

Is there a kind of component switchbox that anyone recommends and should I get a passive or active switcher. Can switchers also be intelligent and auto-switch or perhaps a remotely controlled one or are they manually switched. Is there any degradation of picture quality, any recommendations as to one to purchase, don't want to spend too much.

A mechanical switch is probably cheapest and best quality, can't say I've ever really seen one in the UK though? - Component is really an American thing, Europe used RGB SCART instead. With the current HD popularity it's likely they are available now, although HDMI's are more common.

The answer to your prayers, I too need to plug 2 devices into 1 component input and after ages of searching found this. Havent tried it but there is 1 reader review that really bigs it up.

Thanks guys, I've realised I'll also need something like this for optical audio. any suggestions, since optical audio is digital, I'm assuming having it relay through a switchbox shouldn't cause a loss of audio quality/sync?
