Hi

I seem to have made a gaff and made an impulse purchase of a Home Cinema System (Eltax HT-153) which it turns out does not have an optical port to connect to my Sky+.

My only aim of having a Home Cinema system was to connect it to Sky+ and in the near future a Sky HD.

From browsing the net it would appear i am screwed and just thought i'd come on here and ask you folks in the know to confirm that fact? Is this the case?

The Eltax system has a combined DVD player and Decoder along with the usual speakers etc. On the back of the player/decoder are the following

Audio Input - Aux 1 L & R
Audio Input - Aux 2 L & R
Audio Output - Pre Out L & R
Video Input - Video 1 & 2
Video Output - Video
SW
Coaxial
S-Video
Scart In/Out

As mentioned, without having an optical port is there no other way to get surround sound via Sky+?

If their is a way, presumably not, can anyone tell me the best way to connect my HD TV, Sky+ and Eltax Home Cinema system to make the best use of each other?

Thanks in advance for your time and any responses.

I'll be sure to take more time when making an electrical purchase in future. At £65 my eyes lit up and i thought i'd got myself a bargain but it looks like the last laugh was on me.

Thanks again folks

Well you will not get True Dolby Digital surround sound from Sky+ when it is transmitted but your system does have Dolby Prologic II which is simulated surround sound and works without a digital connection.

But not if the coax connector on the back of the DVD receiver is an output, not an input...

You're right. Just checked on google and the coax is an output not an input. You would of thought that being a home cinema system that it would of been input.

Thanks for your replies folks. I've decided to send the system back and will do without for a while and save for a better spec system with optical port.

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend any cinema systems on the market with optical? I'm not looking for anything top of the range, just a reasonable system that would connect to my Sky and provide what i needed.

Really am a novice at all this, as proven already so if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.
