Doctor Who - something that might mean more?

Knowing that RTD sometimes has a bit of a thing for dropping hints and alluding to something which a viewer might not understand for a good few episodes, is there something in an earlier episode which might have a more important reference?

I was just watching TGITF and there's the scene where the Doctor looks into Madame de Pompadour's mind. It carries on etc until suddenly we notice that MDP is looking into the Doctor's mind. And she says:

MDP: Doctor, so lonely, so very very alone.
TD: What do you mean alone? You've never been alone in your life. When did you start calling me Doctor?
MDP: Such a lonely little boy. Lonely then and lonelier now. How can you bear it?
TD: How did you do that?
MDP: A door once opened may be stepped through in either direction. Oh Doctor, my lonely Doctor. Dance with me.
TD: I can't.
MDP: Dance with me.
TD: This is the night you dance with the King.
MDP: Then first, I shall make him jealous.
TD: I can't.
MDP: Doctor. Doctor Who? It's more than just a secret isn't it?
TD: What did you say?

The bits in bold make me wonder.

I know it's a long shot, or me being a conspiracy theorist, but given some of the rumours about the upcoming episodes, this suddenly seems more relevant.

It excites me. Any views?

What I was hoping desperatly hoping is that the doctor would break his own rules to get madame du pompodaur however perhaps the way the story was resolved was better even if it was a little heartbreaking

Do you think they might be going with the storyline of the Doctor being the Other?

I wonder about it everytime i see it. I may have adressed it on here but some people dismissed it. I really want to know what that was about.

very interesting and thanks Histeria for posting the link.

do you think it might be too much to explain to new viewers who are unfamiliar with the old series and new adventures?

Frankly, yes I do think it is much too complex. But a few subtle allusions could be nice.

It might just be me, but I do get the impression that each series may actually link up with an overall storyarc at some point in the future.

the first two series have covered just about everything..death, love, loss, loneliness so what do you think we could be heading for...?

It's just an impression I get and I don't really have anything concrete to back it up, at least not yet.

Maybe something will be made of Bad Wolf / Torchwood / Saxon (and keywords yet to come) to tie them all together in a future series?

as long as we don't get a predictable slushy ending that The Doctor is miraculously reunited with Rose and they live happily ever after.

I did a little sick in my mouth just reading that.

God, no. I don't want there to be a horribly sickening ending like that. Unless Rose turns out to be the Master of course...

I can't see that happening, tbh.

Rather, I think it may possibly have something to do with bringing back the Timelords.

rebirth? RTD loves happy endings. The whole not killing the old bird off because her whole story had been life affirming, gives me the expectation of a long arc (i.e. end of final series) ending with the ressurection of the timelords en masse.

If you're looking for more short term plot development, just look for whatever bits of Buffy & Angel he has not yet plagurised.

Thought Claire was on to something in another thread regarding "burn with me" being quite prominent this season. After all, the Granny with the straw did say "there are great tests to come; and terrible deeds - some of them my own". Sure she wasn't talking about having an intestinal x-ray and shitting the bed, so perhaps there's a big bad baddie collaboration thing going on...? How would she have heard of what's to come? In league with something?

Where would you "burn with me"? The Sun? In Hell? Both?

So perhaps the "Vote Saxon" posters are really not what we should be looking at (we already know about them), but rather the "X" symbol on those posters and elsewhere? The sign of the Cross? Should we be looking for cruciforms instead?

And which old enemy comes to mind when we have crosses and references to burning (in Hell)?

Interesting to note we have a reference to "The Archangel" in the finalé. St. Michael, the most valiant Archangel, and who is like unto God? The Heavenly Host, Captain of the armies of God, lured by demonic forces in their fight in Heaven against Satan and his followers? Strengthened the heart of the valiant Maccabees to victory in battle? The Archangel is chosen as our "escort from the chastening flames of purgatory to the realms of the Holy Light. When the Anti-Christ shall have set up his kingdom on Earth, it is the Archangel who will unfurl once more the standard of the cross" - Book Of Revelation.

We may or may not have The Master, but we have John Simm who would appear to have taken the Damien route to setting up his kingdom on Earth. We know he knows The Doctor. We know traps have been set. But is he really The Master? Or has Toby escaped from the Void? Or both?

And in a world where there is little that is original tese days, does it really matter? Especially if, like me, you've never watched Buffy/Angel!

I like your thinking, and included in the granny's quote was "the darkness" which has been a theme from S1.

Really? Hmmm... Go rent it now. Your life will become a more fulfilling place to be, your TV will love you forever, and it will probably help curb global warming or child poverty or something.

A really good theory there, one that could very well be true. Everyone (including me) is looking out for The Master when they could well go down a totally different route. On a side note I did think that there was unfinished business with the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit episodes as we never really established who or what the Beast actually was. If it was the Devil and The Doctor did kill him, does that mean The Doctor is God?

I'm loving the "x" theory. The x on the hand to show you've been scanned. The x on the Saxon poster. And of course, what is the middle letter of Saxon?
