Hello - in desperate need of help with my samsung dvd-r122 dvd recorder. I have had the dvd a few months, plays dvds fine but am now having problems recording. Everytime i try to enter a brand new blank dvd (DVD -RW) the dvd player says error detection cannot format disc. the cables seem to be in right but am confused as to what to do now. any help would be massively appreciated.

Is it a new make or even set of DVD-RW that doesn't work? If so try a different brand, otherwise it's broken and should be repaired under warranty. The cables won't make any difference to this.

Is the machine a DVD+/+RW recorder or a DVD-R/-RW. Some machines can now do both....but not all. A DVD+R/+RW machine cant record onto DVD-R/-RW discs or vise versa.

Try formatting the disc in the computer, if the recorder still doesnt want to play then its that type of disk and as the above post says, dont buy the cheapest disks you can find, use branded recordable media.

Also where tv dvd recorders are concerned, I would always choose a multi-speed disc. For example 1-4X or 1-8X speed, rather than discs marked a just 4X or just 8X speed.

My Samsung has been playing up too. Sometimes it just freezes, and it just refuses to respond to the remote. Or the disk just freezes and there are a lot of jeky movements.

Any one else having trouble with Samsung?

I've got a Samsung DVDR/VHS combo that in the 4 months I've had it has frozen 3 times. Each time its happened I've been copying vhs to dvd. I've just unplugged it at the mains, switched back on after a few minutes, ejected the disc I was copying to, re-started with a fresh disc and its been fine. Not too sure its the machine, more likely you get a bad disc in any given batch so I just chuck the offending one away and start again.
