Have you tried going to the settings and under general there is a voice guidance option - have you defined a language for this? You made need to temporarily allow it to connect to the internet so that it saves this option.

Turn off Bluetooth.

I only turn my Bluetooth on when I KNOW what I want to do, and then turn it off immediately after.

Actually I found a setting that authorises bluetooth connection to trusted equipment , this is what I was looking for .

You will need a larger image - the screen on your Sharp was probably smaller - to go full screen on the Nokia you will have to resize the image.

Unless you have downloaded the maps to your phone it needs to connect to retrieve the map data (sure this is how it works), since downloading them I no longer get the request to connect.

The GPS is very slow and can take several minutes to find a satellite, still haven't found a happy medium yet but sometimes it's quicker to go to the GPS section under Tools before opening the maps section, this seems to find your location quicker, it really needs improving though as sometimes I can be half way to my location before it finds me! Also tried standing outside the car before I set off for 5 minutes holding the phone to the Sky looking like a right lemon!

I too was looking like a lemon, while my dad got out his phone with a built in GPS and it worked instantly

Just read that there is a new firmware version that improves the speed of the GPS connection, not sure if it's widely available through the Nokia updater yet? Also improves the focus and shutter speed and menu speed etc.

I had this very same problem.

Even though you've bought the navigation option, the phone won't have downloaded the voice commands, so you need to force that to happen.

At work now, so can't remember how. I think if you change voice langauge away from English, and then re-select English, you'll be asked if you want to download the voice commands.

Obviously, click yes !!

I was under the impression that you have to pay for voice navigation? Having shelled out 130 quid for the upgrade I have been ignoring the requests to download voice commands.

£130 ????? You do have to pay for voice navigation but it's around £47 for 3 years (or a fiver a month), I had the same issue and logged out and back in and when I chose to start navigation it asked if I wanted to download the voice commands so I did and it worked fine (well fine once you get the lock!!!)

yes 130 upgrade fee, but managed to stay on my 22 pound tarif. I've been prompted by the phone to download voice commands, but it's never mentioned the charge involved?

I downloaded voice guidance to my N95 whilst my network setting in the route planner section was set to my home WLAN connection, and had no reason to think this was chargeable.
However if I try to use the navigation I do get an 'accept' / 'cancel' screen with the web address www.nokia.com/maps/legal/ which seems to be an agreement to pay for services beyond that point.

For those folks who got their N95 via o2 upgrades, can you pay for the phone via credit card or do they insist on adding the cost of the phone to your next bill?

Ive got my N95 yesterday from Phones 4 U and so far it is top dog. That is until it decided to switch itself off and now wont turn back on. Ive tried taking the battery out then puttin it back in again, held down the main on switch for about 30 seconds but gettin no where!!

Any other suggestions or is it a case of going back to Phones 4 u?!

Cheers

Yes, definitely send it back. Be sure to include a note explaining its behaviour.

There is a firmware update available apparently. But at the moment it only seems to be for the generic phones. All phones branded with o2 etc. will have to wait to see if the airtime providers provide their own version of the update.

I tried to update yesterday and I was told that there was nothing available. I am guessing this is becuase I am on o2.

Apparently, the update improves a few things, namely speed, camera function, GPS etc.
There are a few discussions here.

This may be an obvious answer to this question . When I try to start web browsing through my wlan network I get a message saying "The page you are trying to access is only available via your orange phone when connected via the orange gprs network "
and I'm unable to get online , how do i get around this please

Is your homepage set to an Orange-hosted website? I have set mine to open bookmarks first.

To answer my own question, the answer is yes but they are out of stock

Anyone here work for o2 online and can keep me informed of stock, so I don't have to keep phoning back?
