Apparently, the update improves a few things, namely speed, camera function, GPS etc.
There are a few discussions here.”

I had a T-Mobile N95 and changed the product code to allow the firmware update immediately (was so easy) and the camera is now a lot better, the menus are quicker but not noticed the GPS to be any quicker (it's still a slow pain!), only bad thing is the phone has crashed 3 times since and I have had to remove the battery to restart it.

Hi all,

Has anyone found a way of unlocking the N95 yet ?

Like spendleb, I'm keen to get the firmware update, but can't while the phone's still branded.

Cheers.

Only way to get network unlocked is to pay your provider for the code. There are no unlocking programs.

You can change the product code (as discussed in previous posts), and this would enable you to get update/unbranded firmware ..... this has nothing to do with being unlocked though.

According to Consumer Direct if you have a problem with a phone (or any product) it is up to the retailer you bought it from to undertake the repairs, replacement etc and not the manufacturer. Basically your beef is with the retailer. My question is, would de-branding a phone not invalidate the warranty as it is the dealer that you have to return to for repairs etc? They could turn around and say that it is your fault the phone is broken because you de-branded it (even if that was not the cause of the fault).

Changing the product code of the phone is a software modification which would invalidate *ANY* warranty attached to the phone, be it with the network, Nokia, or the retailer.

Well I've updated my phone, except there being no references to Orange anymore, I can't see any differences.

In the video centre there is something called Internet Videos, does anyone know what this is? Also, I'm a bit disappointed I can't play Divx videos or when I go to Youtube I can't see any videos. Are there any fixes to this?

There is a DivX player available from what i've read on other forums.

Thanks, I've just downloaded it and installed it. It needs a lot of work before it's going to be useable. The picture isn't very good and the sound goes out of sync after a couple of minutes. But it's a good start and I'm glad Divx have an interest in creating a mobile player.

But for now I think I'll just continue converting to mp4.

What app have you been using to convert?

So far I have tried Xilisoft Video Converter and Win AVI MP4 converter.

I find Win AVI quicker and also it seems to produce smaller files than Xilisoft.

But if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear of them.

T-Mobile seems to be the least branded, only one option on the menu for 'Web 'n' Walk'.

I was interested in the CoPilot software for the N95 but the makers tell me I can only get this through T-Mobile, fine as my contract is with them, I have tried and one customer service rep told me this will be free yet when I call them they now say it's not available for the N95 yet and if it was it would cost me £169 !!!!! Anyone know different??

Not a clue, i'd like some GPS software other than 'Nokia Maps' that works with the inbuilt GPS.

Just use Windows explorer after installing the phone software ... drag 'n' drop them onto phone memory (c: drive), or memory card (d: drive)

If you've been on an O2 contract for over twelve months, the same as for new customers. Cost varies by tariff of course. That's my experience anyway.

OK just ordered my N95 via O2 online.

Whats the best way to charge it to get the best out of the battery?

Charge for 16 hours initially?

Discharge fully for the first few times?

Advice appreciated.

Just follow the instructions, charge until full then use normally.

No long initial charge needed.

Can someone please explain how to activate and use voice dialling on this phone , i'd like to be able to use voice commands through a bluetooth headset but the process is unfathomable to me

On my visor system I simply press the green call button once, wait for the voice dial tone and then say the name. It then searches, offers you the choices and then dials the number it has highlighted (either automatically or by you scrolling to it). Your headset must support voice dialling. On the phone you press and hold the top right hand silver key until the voice dial tone is heard.
