I dont; know of any other sofware that will use the internal GPS.

tomtom will work with an external gps, but NOT the internal one ... they will have to update the software to enable that feature.

I find the GPS when you pay for the voice commands is good, but the fact it pulls the maps down via the internet live means you get killed with data charges. £5 for 30 days is not too bad if like me your will only use it once or twice a year.

I just signed up (went from contract to PAYG 2weeks ago) and got this deal:
500 anytime mins + 500txts = £35 a month
+ N95 for £100 (was £150 till i begged a little lol)
So £520 and get this, on a 12 MONTH contract :\ im well happy lol, but ima drop down 2 the lowest price plan after 9months to save a little money but yeh my phone comes tomorrow wooo.

ive had a look at the phone, and my verdict on it is yes its a nice phone and nokia have done well. it seems to be more or less fault free for the mean time however its just the same as all the others just a bigger camera and a little slimmer.

nokia need some new ideas soon....

although there new firmware is looking nice "multi touch screen" that is promising indeed. I was going to go for the N95 but again everyone will have one soon enough and well i would rather have something where people ask "what does that phone do then?" and are intreguied when they see it.

I just bought it sim free and agreed to pay Three 4 pounds for the year for 500 mins 100 texts per month, it's amazing what deals they do for sim free. I think they hope you will spend outside of the contract and they are happy to give you the minutes almost free.

Total costs 498 pounds.

Your cost 570 for the year, 870 for the 18 months.

It's always worth adding up the total cost of the contract, but then I know it's not easy to find 500 quid to pay upfront. The good thing though is you can upgrade when you want and you're not tied to a network.

I'm ok I got it sim free and if you pay Three a fiver they allow you 2 gig data transfer per month! (x series add on), plus you also get free live messenger and free skype to make internet calls through the handset.

If you get it through o2 you get all the UK maps preloaded on a 1gig micro card

Called Three today to find out when my contract is out, sadly not for a few more months. The CSR in an attempt to get me to upgrade and stay, thinks they will have the N95 by June, but he was still hesitant at that.

you can pre-load the maps to the memory card. Have not tried this yet but it looks like it can be done.

Where have you got Skype and MSN from for your N95? Need X-Series software, but the portal doesnt seem to allow it...

I meant to say that I had just posted to the N95 thread - not a million miles away from this one...

If you buy the phone through o2 they supply a 1Gb memory card with all the UK maps preloaded. Although having navigated through mine I cannot see where they are.

Alternatively, Nokia does offer a maploader package HERE.

My boyfriend just upgraded to this phone with Orange yesterday...being delivered on Tuesday. From what I recall, he had a free upgrade and is now on an 18 month contract paying £35 p/m for 300 texts and 400 minutes, but that's between 7am and 7pm then after 7pm it's unlimited texts and calls apparently.

Thanks for the reply.

Just had my N95 turn up ! Wow !! And it's got the card with maps too ... fab news !!

So am I right ... I won't now have to pay for over-the-air UK map loading ? Are European maps available anywhere ?

Presume the payments to Nokia mentioned elsewhere on this thread are for voice commands. Does this payment get anything else ?

Any of you guys who've had the N95 for a while worked out how to alter the two shortcut keys (top left and top right). At the moment, mine are locked to messaging for the left one and o2 for the right? Also.... any ideas how to force it to save pictures and videos to the card memory and not the phone memory? Ta!

About to buy a Nokia N95, have I got this right then, if I download the maps onto a memory card, there should be no cost to use the GPS? or do I pay each time I connect?

Also if it has Wi-Fi, does this mean I can use my free wi-fi minutes (BT Broadband) to connect to the net without cost?

If you download the maps off the Nokia site with that link above you will not be charged for using the GPS. If you want SatNav where a voice says "turn left in 250 yards" you still have to have a subscription for that more advanced services.

Go into Camera, Settings, and use the option "Memory in use" to make it use the memory card by default.

As for the shortcut Keys, Menu, Tools, Settings, General, Personalisation, Standby Mode, Shortcuts, and you will have left selection key and right selection key, You can also alter your active standby apps from here (that list off apps along the top under the clock)
