Buying from abroad

I've found a place in Indonesia called plasmasolutions. Here Has anyone heard of them? If yes and they are not dodgy would the T.V work in good old blighty. It's a Sony Bravia KDL-2000W for about £650! Even with customs charges i make it that it would only be around £850.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might be worth checking out the warranty situation with a Sony Centre.

Also the power supply. Is it compatible with the UK?

Edit: And is it a UK three pin plug? If it isn't and you cut the plug off it may invalidate any warranty you have.

I would say the fact that prices are given in £'s means they are certainly compatible. Plus there is a 'contact' option so you could ask direct.

No good asking a Sony Centre, they aren't anything to do with Sony, and don't usually even have service departments. You would need to ask Sony themselves, which you can't do any more as the customer contact number is a third party that Sony pay to do customer support.

However, I would say that the warranty wouldn't be valid in the UK - UK sets are made (or at least assembled) in Barcelona, I doubt the Indonesian ones are.

As I recall Sony offer a European wide guarantee, not a world wide one.

Most are multi-voltage and auto switching these days.

They usually use a plug-in mains lead, either IEC or figure 8, there have been a number of cases where Sony UK have shipped sets with non-UK mains leads, which leaves the retailer open to prosecution.

I'd be VERY wary of using this 'company' there's no info on the 'WhoIs' lookup so who are they? where are they etc

There are also many scam sites around selling this sort of thing... I use the word selling loosely as they usually have nothing to sell but they take your money and you get stuffed.

Would you normally buy anything from a third world country over the Internet, let alone a plasma!?!

Save your money and time, spend the going rate and get it closer to home!

I am surprised anyone would ever consider buying something like this from somewhere so far away, so untraceable in the event of a problem....

I do like their 'About Us' info:

Plasma solution Co. began its quest as a wholesale parts distributor for Electronic products back in 2006.

hmmm so they've existed for maybe more than 4 months....

DON'T DO IT

If you can afford to lose £650, give them a try.
If you can afford to spend only £650, keep saving.

Indeed!

I find it remarkable that people's common sense flies out the window when it looks like a 'too good to be true' offer pops up......

I also find it worrying that in other threads people have suggested chancing what is clearly dodgy, saying not to worry as the credit card company foots the bill when it all goes t*ts up.

It won't be long when CC companies don't cover the costs for peoples stupidity.
