Why is Doctor Who chat in the cult section It is not cult anymore its about as mainstream as you can get.
Also why so many threads it is actually putting me off visiting this section

yet you felt the need for one more?

seriusly you're better of directing this kind of query to the mods

How many times does this come up? 'Cult' is a specific genre on DS - it is not about popularity. It's basically the sci-fi forum, rebranded to included some more serialised shows.

Further discussions have been had, at length, here:

Those who want a separate forum for Doctor Who should address this officially with forum moderators. There was enough chit chat on this topic already, methinks.

Indeed. Just send a message saying you would like this to happen.
I am sure if enough people request it then it will get seen to eventually.
A sub forum within cult would be the perfect solution.

You must all live in a weird time warp where advertising, constant mentions in the media and the Saturday night showing don't exist.

It is a mainstream cult.

Seriously though, the term "cult" here is used to encompass all sci-fi and fantasy programmes (even Primeval which is not, and never wil be, a cult show). That might be a bit unusual but there is no dedicated sci-fi section on DS so it lives here. It doesn't mean that you can't discuss other types of cult shows as well so please don't let it put you off.

I have no problem with Dr Who being here, the only problem is that people keep starting lots of Dr Who threads, which does make it a bit untidy and tends to bump other threads off the first page. I would urge people to avoid making unnecessary threads if there is an existing one they can use.

How about a Poll? seems like a good idea to have a seperate Doctor Who forum.

I know people will find that hard to believe but that is perfectly possible. What country are you in and do you own a TV?

Don't forget that threads with polls get bumped when someone votes, even if they don't post! (Or at least they used to...)

Having a Sci-fi section was discussed at length before the Cult section was created. The moderators were against it and Cult (encompassing Sci-fi) was the compromise reached. I can't see them going for a dedicated sub-section for specific programmes.

Surely the poll threads are not the problem. There is only one per week and it is rare for the previous week's one to hang around on the first page. I think it is the spurious extra threads which are the problem. If we could keep it down to three threads at any one time then I think it would be less annoying for the non Dr Who fans:

1. The last episode's poll and discussion thread.
2. A plot arc discusion/speculation thread.
3. A general discussion thread for the classic and radio series.

Spot on. I'm sure everyone can agree to that, so no more problems with 3 different 'next Doctor' variants, half a dozen threads each commenting on a particular line in an episode or on a web site or in a newspaper article, etc. Life's good again!

Tomorrow we can sort out the Middle East.

erm.. there's seperate forums for.. x factor, american idol, big brother, Strictly Come Dancing, The Apprentice..

even though theres a reality tv and music forum can't see why having a doctor who forum (a show that has a fan base for over 40 years) would be a problem.

Sorry. I meant specific sci-fi programmes. The "reality" shows get their own sections because they are so (inexplicably) popular that they would swamp any other section if they didn't.

I totally see your point. A quick glance at the first page of the Cult forum, and 20 of the 30 threads are about Doctor Who.

It would probably suit fans and non-fans for there to be a separate Doctor Who section within the Cult forum.
