They made a passing reference, which is good enough. There is no need to go on a longwinded rant.

Nice Shakespearean adjectives there - neat the way they made him fancy her too. And for those who moaned - they did comment on her nice leather jacket!

yeah...they even introduced black people who were running around like they weren't indentured slaves...Nice revisionist history brought to you by the BBC propaganda department

Propaganda? What are you smoking? Not all black people WERE slaves then, you cretin! At least read the thread or some of the links people have kindly posted in here before you spout off...

It's ENTERTAINMENT, not a history lesson or documentary. Maybe it's not the BBC that has the agenda?

*sigh* yeah yeah I've read through some of it, and while there are exceptions to the rule in society, it wasn't nearly common enough to insinuate that black women walked around reasonably well clothed for the period. And don't call me a cretin, not necessary. Apologise. Now.

I love the fact that people on ds (seem to) believe we live in utopia.”

And I love how some people can only exist when they are on their soapbox blowing off about tv programmes which hadn't even been aired when they began to whinge.

You read *some* of it. Maybe read some more. You still haven't explained the "propaganda" comment. Surely it's not a bad thing to promote racial harmony?
Not gonna apologise. Now or ever.

Did I whinge?

My comment about utopia is general, not relating to Dr.who alone. It is something I observed about DS when the issue of race is brought up.

Why bring up the topic in this forum if it is meant for general discussion?

Well. Sure there's no harm in promoting racial harmony, especially with the fact that the new series of doctor who has a target demographic that could be deemed as children, but let's still keep that in perspective; Britain most certainly wasn't the multicultural society our government likes to make us out to be these days.

And I say the BBC propaganda department, because they do like to cushion us from the truth if they think it's going to cause some friction, don't they?

And go on. Please? You hurt my feelings. I'll buy you some sherbert lemons if you do? Or even some Jelly Babies?

Political Correctness gone mad I tell you! Next thing you know, they'll be allowing women to vote! Dangerous times, I tell you.

We must be careful.

Contributed to a thread that someone else started. And I believe I made a pretty levelheaded comment cos whether the people on Ds like it or not, majority of black people were treated a certain way in those times and we are all aware of it. There is no need to try and re-write history and pretend balck people were all given stately homes when they arrived in uk. It is a TV drama, not a documentary, I felt a passing mention will do.

As for toast, I would love some thanks! I haven't had dinner and I am too lazy to cook.

Y'see, I'm all from the school that demands realism, where we tell people that britain in the old days was a cruel and sadistic time, when black people were treated like crap, women were pretty much nothing but glorified sex toys for the personal pleasure of their spouses and the rich got richer at the expense of the lower classes they subjugated...And then the 1980's ended, and the thatcher era really got going.

*sigh* the good old days.

Jam or Marmalade on your toast? or even beans?

I feel realism is too serious for the show.

I LOVE Orange Jam on my toast, perferably by Robinsons with Shreds and a picture of Gollywog on the jar
